I like the jumbo raisins you find in the store that plump up when cook them, however I just started reading labels more carefully and noticed that they contain sulpher dioxide, probably as a preservative. I'm wondering if this is something I should stay away from.
Case in point, a long time ago I bought some freeze-dried bananas from the open bin at the grocery store. I ate them like a snack, probably a half bag.... then experienced severe stomach pain that prompted me to call the poison center. I was asked what I ate, and described the banana chips. Sulpher dioxide in the chips was the problem, I should only eaten a few. I threw out the bag and never again looked at another freeze dried banana chip. Now with the rasins, I've eaten these before in my oatmeal, just a handful and have not had any problems. Should I stop eating them?

Hmmm...weird. I didn't know they were allowed to use presevatives that were that bad for us!
I've never a problem with raisins AT ALL, but I haven't a clue what theyre preserved with (other than just being dried fruit...hey, why do they need preservatives???).

Organic dried fruit without sulpher dioxide as a preservative is available for purchase @ most health food stores. The taste difference is incredible (in favour of the organic fruit). Also, there is no ill-side effect--unless the IF is a trigger/gastrocolic hyperstimulant.
