I have extreme IBS c so I was wondering can I increase my magnesium intake to 1000mg instead of 500mg?
I've been taking magnesium pills and 500mg isn't strong enough.

Thank you very much

I'm sure someone on here with more experience will weigh in but I'd suggest asking your doc or a dietician if there would be any medical reason that you couldn't. 1000mg is 2.5 times the RDA so it's a pretty hefty dose and there might be health complications.

What meds are you on? I take you follow the diet, take a SFS, eat plenty of safe IF, drink lots of water and get exercise?

Hi Susan, I was taking 600 mg, and my GI doc said not to go
too much higher because it could create an electrolyte im-
balance over a period of time. -Bob

I thought 1000 mg would have been a safe dose. Thanks for the info guys!

Just because some magnesium is good doesn't mean that more magnesium is better! The ideal ratio to have in your diet is twice the calcium as magnesium.

Are there other things you are trying for your C? How much insoluble fiber are you getting? Fluids? Exercise? Relaxation/meditation/hypno?

I do everything. Soluble fiber supplement, follow heather's diet, relaxation, lots of exercise and tea, etc
I've had c for almost 2 weeks and have no idea why. It happened out of no where. It's so painful.

OK, the one thing I don't see on your list is insoluble fiber. How much are you getting? Have you tried increasing it slowly? If you have C, this is the most important step you can take!

Well, maybe not the key, but certainly a key. AC is absolutely
correct. Oh, btw, AC, I'm going to be back in Chicago between
March 3 and 11. I'm going to try and get flight reservations
set this week. Thus I'm advertizing this time period for our
next get-together. -Bob

Great! I'll be around that week, so pretty much any time will work for me.

Thanks for chipping in AC!

I'm an A and if I get C it means I need to increase my IF intake as well as cutting out any triggers or high-fat foods I may have been indulging in.

I thought so too.
I've seen it mentioned on IBS sites so many times.

I definately get enough insoluble fiber.
I have increased slowly as well.

I love your kittie. So cute. I have three myself.
