I was in the "Shop for IBS" section and was reading the description in Peppermint Tummy Tea. How do you know if you're succeptable to getting GERD? Besides getting heartburn once or twice a month on average, I don't have anything else to go by.

Hey Gracie!
I guess you just have to give it a try if you don't know. I didn't know that I was suseptible until I tried it. I got GERD BAD!! I finally had an endoscopy done and found out that I have a hiatal hernia. If I would have known this BEFORE I tried drinking the peppermint tea, I wouldn't have done it!
Actually, I think I would have been okay drinking it in MODERATION! I drank it everyday, until I got GERD, which only took about 2 weeks!!
Start off with just a little bit at a time and see how you do. I don't recommend drinking it as much as I did unless you're FOR SURE that you won't get GERD from it.
HTH! Good Luck! Michelle

I can tolerate grocery store peppermint tea (like Lipton) but Heather's Peppermint Tummy Tea is too strong for me (I have mild reflux). I'd suggest you try the grocery store peppermint tea first and see how you do with that. If you can tolerate that you could give Heather's a try. Since Heather's is stronger it's a more powerful anti-spasmodic.

So 2 or 3 times a week should be okay? What does HTH mean?

Yea, that should be okay. Just not 2-3 times a day, like I was doing!!
HTH~(Hope This Helps!) LOL!!

Peppermint does not CAUSE GERD, however, if you have acid reflux, it's generally not a good thing!
I can handle mild peppermint teas without a problem. These include Celestial Seasonings & (my favourite) Twinnings Peppermint tea. Likewise, I can tolerate mild Ginger teas (i.e. Lipton) as well as flat gingerale. However, a more potent Ginger tea (i.e. Yogi Ginger tea) is just a little too risky.
Kate, IBS-D.
