I have not posted in here for well over a year now.
I have IBS-C but I rarely ever suffer from C or D, kind of in between.
I have followed the diets suggested by Heather for over 3yrs now.
I am very, very careful about what I eat, I watch the ingrediants on every thing I eat.
I try to stay away from anything containing wheat, no egg yold, mild, high fructose corn syrup.
I have recently read a lot of newer messages and I am some what confused. It seems people are eating a lot more of what I thought we were not supposed to have.
I was under the impression we were not supposed to eat soup, I thought that being soups were mainly made with fat that it was not IBS safe but most messages are saying that it's ok to eat soup.
I also saw where some people were suggesting eating bagels. Now that too is confusing for me because Bagels are made with egg and that is not safe. Is it ok to eat certain types or is this just for certain people who do not have a weakness to egg yolk?
I guess what I am saying is it looks like now there are way more acceptable foods then what I was aware of and being that I have been so afraid to venture out of what I know to be ok I was wondering if maybe I am being too paranoid.

Aren't there soup recipes in heather's books? Also most bagels aren't made with eggs. Only "egg bagels" which look very yellow are made with egg yolk. Otherwise they are basically just boilied and then baked white bread.

Most of every thing is made with high fructose corn syrup so I imagine that won't matter much to people who have no intolerance to it.

I make my own... also- I don't use canned soups, but I make a lot of soups to eat- low in fat, etc... I can't wait to have a food sealer too- going ot freeze servings in a container, then transfer to food sealer bags still frozen so I can take them to work easier and not bring home mess... I can't have HFCS either.. its why I am getting a new bread machine now!

Hi JennK.

I remember your picture. Welcome back!

I've always sworn by soup, ever since Day One on the program. In fact, soup was a lifesaver for me, because it was the only way I could get any veggies down me safely. However, it was home-made soup, using my own stock, which of course was totally fat-free.

Also, I've never had a problem with bagels except for their size -- too much food at one sitting -- so I just ate a half.

I've kept a food journal for over 3 years and discovered my triggers. One thing I found was I was able to eat things that I wasn't able to eat before. I can even have coffee now! However, my living situation changed, such that I am not under any kind of stress anymore, which was tearing my stomach apart 3 years ago. I've been stable for quite awhile now.

I don't have attacks very often, but when I do, it's usually because of some new antibiotic I've been put on or too much calcium supplement, very seldom food. The one trigger that I have to watch is portion control. If I eat more than I should, I'll get an attack.

Did I answer your question, or am I just rambling again?

Oh yeah -- "weakness for egg yolk." Well, sometimes I'll get a little rumbly tummy after a fried egg, but otherwise I'm good to go. I usually have "Egg Beaters," but there are times when they just don't cut it like a nice fried egg, ya know?

No, I don't believe the rules have changed. I just think, once you're stable, you find you can tolerate a few things that you couldn't before. That's been the case with me and a few others here. "Venturing out of what I know to be ok" is scary, but what a joy for me when I discovered I can tolerate dead cow carcass! I'm eating burgers all the time, and loving 'em!

I would never eat red meat again even if I found I could. I can't even stand the smell of it now, even pork.
My kids don't eat red meat when they are with me either. I eat turkey meat in every form and chicken. I am a vegetarian now, I eat tuna as well. I try to keep eating veggies but they make my stomach hurt. I do eat a lot and as far as I know I eat mostly safe foods. I can't tolerate any chocolate still but then again I never could even before I found out I had IBS. I have had 1 attack in a year and half and that was due to cheating and eating way too much bad foods.
I am afraid to eat breads that have HFCS so I eat french and italian bakery breads. I wish I could go back to at least being able to eat regular bread, would make life so much more simple for me.
I am going to try and keep up on the boards, I have so much going on anymore seems like I always forget.

Soups can be a fantastic source of safe foods. Ever heard of Imagine Soups? They are organic pureed veggies basically. Super safe and super yummy to many on the boards if you don't feel like making your own!

I think everything else you asked about has been answered?? if not...sorry I missed it!

Thanx for the welcome back.
I have become lazy to a point over time and I belong to tons of Yahoo groups on-line but the mail comes right to me so I never travel on net very often. I have never heard of the soup you mentioned. Do I have to go to a health food store for it?

Hey Jenn!

I buy Imagine Soups at Whole Foods. So yeah...HFS. They have loads of diff. types (broccoli, mushroom, etc.) so lots to choose from

HFCS can be a pain! I'm sensative to it as well. Some bakery bagels have it (mine does *pout*) but most don't. I think Lender's does...but it's way down on the list so it may be ok for some people. I just read the ingredients and do what works for me.

Were you asking a question about the site or were you just commenting when you said you are part of lots of yahoo groups (meaning you don't come here a lot cause you're busy doing other stuff?) Do not even worry about not hanging out here!! We are here for you as much or as little as you need us, ok *hugs* You were just an awesome poster so we're psyched to see you and help in any way we can

My holiday went very well. I am so glad it's over, even as nice as it was. There is so much stress around that time and the whole month itself, it's like every one is so worried about the things that should not matter, I had myself so worked up worried I did not buy enough for every one. I have most of my x-mas stuff down already but I can't part with my tree or the lights just yet.
No I was not asking questions about the board, I can surf around and answer or comment on what I can but the only way I can really keep up is to mark a thread as a favorite, if I don't I get lost trying to keep up. I left here before I got the hang of things.
I will do some searching around the health food stores around here and see what I can find.

Oh and as far as me keeping busy. I run and help run a lot of groups that create, like personalized stationary or personlized little tags with your name to match them. I teach how to do that as well so I stay very busy with it all.
