I finished taking my antibiotics last saturday. I had to take 4 pills a day for 10 days! At first I felt a little nauseas taking them, but I think I got use to them or something. Then I developed a yeast infection. Yuck! Anyway, I've been done w/ the antibiotics for 4 days, and last night is when I had bad D. I've read this does happen to ppl days or weeks after taking antibiotics? Anyone else had this trouble after they were done w/ the pills? I'm just so worried and paranoid about eating. I've been eating fresh french bread today, but that's about it. I just don't want to get D again! I went 6 times last night but haven't gone since like 8:30 last night...I hope it doesn't come back. I just worry that my worrying will make me worse...

Yep, stressing out is likely to make you worse!
Take Immodium and probiotics and eat only as according to this diet with plenty of SF and you should be fine.

This is very common because the antibiotics have killed off all the good bacteria in your intestines, and that makes yeast grow rampant, thus giving you the D and yeast infection. Probiotics is the way to go to help you out (some doctors are now actually recommending their patients take probiotics after a round or two of antibiotics). Until you're cleared up though, it would be wise to cut back on refined carbohydrates and fruits that are considered high in sugar. The sugar feeds yeast.

Hi Amber. I'm dealing with antibiotic-induced D right now too. Yuck. I've never had it after I finished taking the drugs though. Hmm. I get yeast infections every freaking time too. What a pain! Try some probiotics. Personally, I like the liquid kind that comes in little plastic barrels. You can get a 6-pack of little individual ones at Whole Foods. It really helps!
Just out of curiosity, what kind of antibiotics were you on? I was on augmenten for a tooth infection, which completely messed me up. Now it's amoxicillian, which seems to be ok.

Sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing now...it sucks! I've never tried probiotics before and I'm new to the whole IBS-thing (just recently diagnosed I mean). Everyone talks about probiotics, so apparently they are IBS safe? Seems like a reasonable thing for me to look into since I apparently don't have enough "good" bacteria to prevent yeast infections and whatnot! My brother lives by a Whole Foods and is coming over tomorrow, maybe I'll ask him to pick some up for me? If he went in and asked where to find the probiotics that come in a "6 pack of little individual containers" the clerk would know what he was talking about? And I can't exactly remember the name of the antibiotic I was on. It started with the letter D. It was a form of pennicillin. I was prescribed it because I had a breast infection (I'm nursing my 8 month old now). Sorry to hear you're on the second round now...good luck w/ everything!!!
take care, Amber

There is only one antibiotic I can take that doesn't make me sick and that's Cephlexen.
Antiobiotics can cause "D" and yeast infections. They actually kill the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria.
I was always told that you should eat yogurt or take probiotics to put the good bacteria back in your system.
Feel better soon Barbie

With the probiotics, it takes 2 to 3 months before you notice a difference. Probiotics re-establish the good bacteria in your system. If your brother can't find the 6pack of containers, another good brand to try would be Primal Defense by Garden of Life. It may seem pricey, but worth every penny. They do not lose their effectiveness going through the stomach environment like most probiotics tend to do.
