My husband tries to be supportive, but he really believes that my IBS is all in my head. I am trying to change my diet at home, but he refuses to do it with me and it is too expensive to buy two sets of groceries. Does anyone have any tips on how deal with this kind of situation?

Oh boy! What a situation.

Presumably he loves you! What I did was use this as a bit of a guilt factor (v. bad, but hey!) to make my guy read a book on IBS. I'd recommend Heather's "IBS-The First Year". The charts on colon contractions for an IBS-er and a non-IBS-er are particularly good for this. As are what is said about the digestive-brain! You might also want to remind your hubbie that some things, like depression, might be in your head, but they can still be a purely physical problem, like a chemical imbalance.

Hope this helps and he does it.

I agree with Linz about getting The First Year. In the meantime, check here for the charts you can show your hubby: web page It's a great way to actually show what's going on.

Try to cook things that aren't too off the wall that he may not notice are safe for you. Do you have any favorite recipes? We can help you try to make them safe. Or try something new from the recipe boards. Hopefully that will help break him in!

If worse comes to worse, you could probably split the money up you'd normally spend on groceries so you're not spending extra, and you each do your own shopping and cooking. Maybe fending for himself will help convince him also!

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the advice. I know what I should do, but sometimes you need to hear it from someone else. I will work on getting him to read the book. Thanks Again!!!!!
