So somehow I got suckered into going on an overnight camping trip for New Years. It would be a fun experience for a normal person except that I'm obviously not normal and I know I'll be freaking out the whole time worried that I may have an attack! That in itself could trigger my stomach, and with no restrooms anywhere in sight what's a girl to do?! Not only do i have to keep myself from going D, i also have to keep myself from going period! The only thing i'm doing in the woods is going pee...and i even hate the thought of that. Has anyone else ever been in this situation? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do before-hand/during to keep myself stable???

So my luck, I have a boyfriend who LIVES to camp...no bathrooms ever. I, too, am IBS-D and I always manage by taking Immodium before I go, again during the evening if I feel nervous, and again in the morning. I know it's an uncomfortable thing, but when you have to #2 in the great outdoors, it's really not that bad. Just wander away from the campsite and hide behind some bushes. Bring a small trowel and a roll of TP or some wet wipes. (I find the wet wipes work best.) Just relax and do your thing. Trust me, everyone else does too It's actually kinda fun if you let yourself stop worrying

The best thing you can do is relax and try to enjoy yourself! Trust me, you'll be just fine!

That makes me feel so much better to know that there is someone else out there who has been in my position!!! My roomate and her boyfriend go camping all the time and I ALWAYS turn them down. I just get so nervous that I will get sick. And being in the middle of nowhere just isn't the place for that! Do you eat or not eat anything in particular while you are camping?

Years ago when I was doing a lot of hiking I bought a book called How to Sh*t in the Woods. Seriously. Very useful, very funny.

And I second the whole "lots of Immodium" approach.

Nice game against Alabama, by the way. My brother was distraught.

Kayakers on trips always have a little trowel with them for potty times; it's like a gardening trowel. For potty breaks, we paddle ashore, take out our little trowels, and everyone finds their own logs to hide behind. We dig up a little hole in the ground with the trowel, into which we "do our thing," then we bury it. Fun stuff.

You can always pack some Equalactin; it'll calm down the tummy when you feel anxious. If you have a "D" problem like I do, don't forget to also pack the Lomotil or Imodium.

ENJOY!

Wait, wait, wait. Camping was one of the things I always loved to do because I COULD do it with ibs. As my boyfriend used to say about my ibs on camping trips: "The world is your toilet." You can go at any time, any where. No lines. No having to ask for the key, no desperate search for a public restroom.

Not to belittle you not wanting to go in the woods... but it's really not that big a deal. You take your little shovel (they come in cute little carrying cases) and a BIG roll of TP (bring your own, never depend upon men to guess the right amount you'll need), dig a hole, squat, and bury. Seriously, this is one activity, unlike boating, rock climbing, etc., that you have total freedom when it comes to bathroom trips. Besides, if its New Years, I'm assuming there may be some drinking going on, which means everyone else will be going potty several times too. Good luck!

Yes, it's OTC, but sometimes it's hard to find. You may need to ask the pharmacist for it, and he may have to order it for you, but that's okay; it's well worth the trouble. I go through boxes of this stuff, and it's NEVER let me down.

It's basically a SFS, and mainly for "C", but I'm a "D", and for some reason it just calms down my tummy better than anything I've tried. When hubby had "C", I gave him one, and it didn't do anything, so I gave him another, and then he felt a difference. I don't think I'd dare take two, 'cause I've never had "C" in my life.

If you do a search in the Diet Board, you'll find a million posts about this stuff. It's absolutely phenomenal, my very fave med, and apparently it's a fave of a lot of us here. Check it out!

Oh, and you may wonder why it's not taken every day like Benefiber or Acacia. It's because it's expensive. A small box is something like $8. I always buy several boxes of it. I keep some in my kayak, some in my purse, some in the car, and some in each bathroom.

Sometimes, when I'm anxious about something, and I'm driving down the road, I'll feel rumbling in my tummy, and I know what's coming -- so I reach in my glove compartment and pull out a tablet, chomp it down, and by the time I get to the next intersection, my tummy is all calmed down.

If you can't find it at your drug store, you definitely can get it online. You'll find a website for it in some of the posts if you do a search.
