They replace the naturally occuring flora in the gut. This is said to help with all sorts of diseases related to digestion like IBS and Crohns. Here's a couple of pages I've been to. I'm trying the Primal Defense from Garden of Life. You can also do a web search on probiotics and Primal Defense and there is a lot of good stuff out there.

I could not access the article; I believe the problem is I'm not a subscriber to the Harvard newsletter. However, I found a probiotic available thru the internet called "Primal Defense" by "Creme de la Creme" (?!) which was mentioned in this board. Interestingly, on the Harvard website there was a "related link" to info about bladder infections. BTW, thanks for your links to websites about bladder infections. I'm gonna search some more about probiotics; there's a LOT in these boards! Bev
