What to do in an "emergency"

I was at work last night and was in the bathroom more than I was out. I had explosive gas but only a few very small bowel movements. I had drank fennel tea before I left for work and while there ate lightly, took an antispasmodic prescription pill, and drank cranberry juice. All to no avail!
Does anyone have any ideas to stop this kind of "attack"??
It is soo embarrassing. I had to wait until everyone else left before I walked to my car as I was afraid I would embarrass myself. I recently finished a course of antibiotics and it really upset my system.

Also, has anyone found their IBS to worsen after menopause?

I wish I had some good advice as I've been there too many times I'm afraid. The only thing that will help stop an attack for me is Lomotil. I try not to take it too much as it sometimes constipates me for a few days. I wouldn't mind that so much but then the next time I go, I really make up for it.

Have you tried Heather's Peppermint oil capsules? I have found them helpful in settling my tummy if it's rumbly or have gas.

Hope you feel better soon!

I take codiene, and for whatever reason, it "resets" my system and makes it easier to pass the gas, get up and get out of the bathroom and on with my life. I know how it feels to be horribly stuck!! You poor thing! It just sucks when you do everything right, (or even when you just cheat a liiiittle), and your gut just won't behave.

Hope you're doing better and your dignity didn't suffer too hard a blow. I think we can all relate...!

Like sandyg suggested, Heather's Peppermint Capsules and Tea really helps me. I get really bad gas at night and the only thing that keeps my hubby from leaving to sleep in another room are the tea and capsules. I have also found that the amount of gas attacks for me has lessened since I started getting more sleep at night. If I am not well rested, I get really bad attacks. Mediation helps me too.
