Hi,
My doc just gave me Librax, I am IBS-D and it has really opened up doors as to what I can eat without getting sick. I went to Vegas this past week and it was great not worrying about getting sick after I ate. I still played it somewhat safe, eating chicken sandwiches no cheese, but WITH mayo, and I also ate the french fries that came with the sandwich!!!
Apparently it "relaxes" your whole GI track. It has made me drowsey after I have taken it, but only when I am sitting not doing anything. I had no problem walking miles in Vegas after I took it.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has used it, had problems with it, etc. I don't always take it, only in those situations when I can't eat as well as I would like to and bathrooms are not convient.
Thanks, Olivia

Hi Olivia,
The reason Librax "relaxes" your digestive system is because it is made up of different medicines, including valium. I was on Librax for a while, but had to switch when it didn't work for me. I take valium before getting fillings done at the dentist and aparently my body has gotten used to the valium so it doesn't work as well anymore.
I would suggest only using it as necessary so your body doesn't adjust to it. Since it is a combination drug, there might not be as much valium in there as there is taking valium straight - so your body might not adjust to it as fast as mine did, or might not adjust to it at all.
Hope this helps!

From what a Dr recently told me. Librax or the generic (called something like chlori-clidium -??sp-, it seems to have several names) is 2.5 mg. Only 1/2 mg is valium and the other 2 mgs. are some type of abdominal muscle relaxer.
I sure wouldn't worry about it. I know it's one of the popular drugs for IBS and usually does a great job. I AM REAL SORRY that I went off it.........! That's probably what caused my huge flareup now...! Before that I took Bentyl which didn't seem to do anything for me. Welll.....it may have helped a smitch!
Hope this helps and you feel better.

I have found Librax to be a lifesaver!!! I try not to take it all the time-but on bad days or nights it's a lifesaver!! Once in awhile i take it before a trigger food-but I usuallywill react to the trigger, only not so bad! hope it helps!! Mary
