Confession: I'm not up to speed in SF in stuff like malt-o-meal or breads/pretzels. (Lol! I only re-introduced Cheerios to my pantry, recently and made friends with potatoes!) I'm not sure how much the 6 wild mushrooms would yield, chopped. The carrots, the bananas, the potatoes/fries...they definitely add SF bulk. At least 10g as an offhand underestimate without being "anal" and checking a reference chart.

I just sort of think it's interesting re: how much SF people are eating versus quantity of SF supplemented.

Thanks, though!
Kate, IBS-D.

Good point. I'll try 12g.

Thanks, Linz.

I think I average about 20g of SF a day from food sources. If I get more than that, I definitely have bigger, better BMs.

Yeah, on a bad day, I get around 20g.

I reduced my benefiber and am only going to take it at night.

I did that and am not chained to the toilet all afternoon and could go out without anxiety and trepidation! I did 9g of benefiber, last night, but more as a D preventative, if that makes sense. I only needed one Immodium today!

Most days, though...I eat more than 20g of SF.

Thanks for sharing your experience/input. I'm just curious re: how much SF others think/estimate they are actually eating.

Kate, IBS-D.

Or are you figuring it out based on supplement alone?

I would LOVE to know how much SF and IF I get in a day...

(Obviously..I can't help ya Kate...cause I have no idea how much I'm getting! Sorry bout that! )

I find it next to impossible to accurately judge how much SF in in food. new

There are too many conflicting charts on how much SF is in what food. If there was an accurate one Heather would be the fist to hand it to us. We can only go by how that food reacts to water absorption or how easily it smushes (for lack of a better word). Therefore I don't bother even trying to count the amount of SF I eat in one day, but rather the amount of SF in my SFS, then make sure I have a meal with a good SF base OR have a few g. of SFS first...if that makes any sense..

And personally, I think that's crap. I agree!! I don't remember how much Kandee's taking, but I think she's getting about that much from SFS alone! Absolutely..I get between 30 and 40 g. of SFS per day...in the form of acacia, inulin, and psyllium. The amount in food I let take care of itself. Believe me, doing it this way I can even eat very little SF in the form of certain foods like rice/GF bread/etc. at a meal because I'm so stable. Occasionally I'll have a meal almost all IF and get away with it. And she's just an example. I fully believe that some people need more SF than others, just like some need more IF than others (although, of course, everybody needs both of them!). Very true..for me I have a couple things going that dictate I NEED more of both SFS and IF...one is age, another is being hypothyroid, another is having a mild case of diverticulosis. We're all different, but if anyone, especially a C is still having bowel problems then upping the SFS is the most sensible solution to the problem.

I'm not sure how much SF I eat in a day... if anyone wants to figure it out, I can rattle off what I ate yesterday, which was pretty representative. Plus I take 6-8g FiberChoice. I figure I'm around 25g/day, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's more than that on days that I really pig out.

By the way, calories put on weight, not SF. Of course, SF foods tend to be denser in calories, but my point is that you can gain weight by eating more sugar, for example. LMBO..how well I know...sugar and nuts did it to me....I've given up the nuts but the sugar, no way. I still think you need to bake up some of those tasty quick breads and cakes and have them around at all times. It certainly put the pounds back on ME. LOL..you look just right to me

I still haven't been able to force myself to eat wheat products. I've ventured as far as spelt bread, oats, and barley...but wheat is still off limits for me. I'm just not ready to go there yet.
