Hi folks,it's been awhile. I am having the 3rd day of an above average attack since being diagnosed in July. I have been sticking to the extreme conservative approach with Heathers Diet and supplements being my base. I suspect stress as the latest trigger as I am in the process of a move, death in family etc. My question is my Doc gave me a medication Hyoscyamine to take as needed. I haven't taken it since the first week in July.(I hate meds) Has anyone had any success with it? MY symptoms have been severe back and belly pain, lots of bloating and gas. ANd some stabbing pains throughout my body. No D or C this time around.

It works for me pretty good. I have a prescription for Pamine Forte right now that I haven't started taking, yet, because I cannot take the Levsin AND the Pamine together. But, as soon as I can switch I will because the Pamine controls the spasms longer, I guess. I have IBS BAD right now, so I take about 5 Levsin's a day to control my attacks. They definitely have helped alot!!! Give it a shot. I didn't have any negative side effects and I usually get ALL the side effects from meds because I'm so small. I did get a tiny bit drowsy (very little) in the beginning but my body adjusted and don't even notice it anymore. I'm much more relaxed.
Good Luck!

You too! I have only been unstable since August this year but it feels like forever! I think you will like the Levsin and if you don't get any relief from taking one, you can take two. If it doesn't work for you after about a week or two, it probably won't work for you. Try another one. There are plenty....I have heard good AND bad things about the Pamine Forte. I am going to try it because I am very unstable IBS-D and need the constant supply in my system. I have attacks every time I put something in my mouth if I don't take the Levsin right before.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

I do have your same symptoms, too...I just started having the back pains a few days ago. But, I have had severe bloating and gas since August!!! I cannot seem to get rid of that, no matter what I do. But, at least the Levsin controls the abdominal pains, D, nausea and it also helps me relax a little bit because I'm miss paranoia!!

Just took one now. I think I will keep taking them until I stabilize again. This bout I am sure is due to anxiety. We are moving tomorrow and it's going to be a nutty weekend. Whew!

I've been using this medication for years and by itself didn't fix my problems but in combination with Heather's diet and acacia I'm very happy. I take one in the a.m., mid-day, bedtime. The only side effect I get is the cotton mouth but lozenges or drink take care of that.

When I have the cramps and gas it usually because I've unintentionally eaten a trigger or sometimes intentionally.....Halloween candy is a big temptation for me

Have you tried a daily dose of Immodium as a preventative? It usually works very well when taken every day....and if you slow your system down with the Immodium you'll get alot less cramps.

I did start taking one Imodium everyday until just recently. It makes me very C! Everytime I eat, I have an attack and nothing comes out, like it usually does! Just immediate nausea, cramps and big time BLOAT and GAS!!! I haven't taken any Imodium in about 3 weeks and I don't have D right now, at all....it's the other way around, at the moment. I'm hoping once the Imodium gets completely out of my system that it will start running again. Otherwise, I'm going to have major problems with C.

Hi Michelle, Say, have you tried taking your Levsin regularly,
like three times a day instead of as needed, that might help
to stabilize you. Also, it sounds like you're an A not D.Have
you ever had C before? -Bob

Yea, I am taking my Levsin regularly, now and yes, I am now C, Big Time! I have ALWAYS been IBS-D but for the past 3 weeks I have been VERY C!!! It's unusual for me. So, maybe the Remeron that the doc put me on is making me C....
I don't know. I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy next week. So, we'll see! Maybe I am IBS-A, now.

I know, I'm a chocoholic and it really causes me to have major IBS problems! I had to stop eating it in Aug because I became too unstable. I eat a little piece every now and then because I cannot stay away from it and I pay for it every time!

I find a good SFS - and a decent sized dose of that - crucial to managing IBS-A. I take 2T of Acacia daily and am considering going to 3T.

Btw, if you go through another bad D patch, try taking just half or a quarter of an Immodium tablet every other day.

Yes, that is a common side effect of Remeron, and Levsin too!
The two in combo could be the problem. -Bob

I was on Remeron in the Navy for two years before I even had IBS and it made me seriously C! But, I would just pop a couple of fiber choice and I would be fine. Now that I have IBS, it's really bad! I am trying to have an attack right now and I keep popping antacids trying to keep the acid down because I have gas really bad and if I get nauseated then my gut will start cramping up......The tea isn't working for me this time around.

That was the first and only thing my doctor prescribed for me to take. I take it once in a while when I'm experiencing bloating and gas and I am not in the comforts of my own home. For instance when I go out for dinner or to a friend's house. I'm like you where I do not like to take meds, so I use this as a last resort to help relieve my symptons. I have to place it under my tongue and let it gradually dissolve.

Hope it helps for you....

Carol

Oh God. I was prescribed that crap last January. Every time I took it for a spasm, it WORSENED it. That stuff is aweful. I would throw it out and call the Doc a Quack. But that's just me. If it works for you, then... well... I guess it works. Or something. Yeah.
