Very, very reputable and well known foundation. According to this article, Laxatives are now considered safe for constipation without being habit forming or dangerous. Here's the link. IFFGD What do you guys think? Is Aloe, cascara, or senna okay for us? Is it okay to use MOM everyday? -------------------- ~ Beth Constipation, pain prodominent,cramps, spasms and bloat! There is a huge difference. One of the first gastros I saw told me to take Senekot(which is Senna)every night. I was on it for about 21/2 years. It works, if I took 2 before bed, I would have a BM the next morning. If I didn't take it, I would not have a BM. It causes terrible cramping (like we need more!) and leaves you feeling sick to your stomach after you have had a BM. Laxatives are not good for people with IBS - plain and simple. If laxatives weren't addictive or dangerous we would have a cure for IBS-C'ers. IBS-C Hi Beth, I would agree with them that they are safe,however aloe and senna can be very harsh! I bought this "Colonix" kit back in May, and tried one cup of their senna tea. Talk about big time cramps! I had nearly uncontrolable D the whole day, and felt like total crap that one day. These certainly seem safer than Ex-Lax or something like that. I tried senna a few times, and Casagrada too...and both worked wonderfully and gentle too! I just stopped taking them because I was scared about the habit forming and the potential damage. I wish this article went more into detail about what type of stimulant laxatives they were talking about. You think the senna and aloe would be included in the safe category, even though you had a hard time with Senna...because I loved the Senna and Casagrada! It, like STC, is one of the many things that doctors now think some people have that have been misdiagnosed with IBS-C. And b/c if you have either of those you don't neccessarily have the IBS, laxatives are much safer to take. However, if you had no problems with senna or casa- grada, then by all means try them again.
