Are the flavored Quaker instant oatmeals safe to eat? I just started the diet and am having trouble finding quick things to eat at work...

The plain one is fine, but some of the flavors have dairy ingredients, which would make them unsafe. All of the "and cream" flavors are definitely out, and I think that, of all things, the brown sugar cinnamon one has milk in it, but I could be wrong about that. Read the labels and you should be fine!

If plain is all you have to go with, you can always do what I do with my old fashioned oats: stir in a half cup of canned peaches or pears. Bananas are something else I add on occasion.

I also think the flavored ones have a lot of artificial flavors and preservatives, which can be problematic for IBS'ers ... especially if you are unstable. Your best bet would be to use the plain instant oats and add some brown sugar to sweeten it up! I also cook mine with Vanilla Rice Milk, YUM!

If you're like me and don't want to spend the time reading labels at the store, you can check out the Quaker Oatmeal webpage to read the ingredient lists. BTW, I do fine with Quaker Instant Oatmeal Original (plain) and QIO Maple & Brown Sugar.
