I've become an addict of blackcurrant tea and I just wanted to check that no-one knew of any GI side effects. Ingredients are:

Hibiscus
Blackberry leaves
Licorice Root
Apple Pomace
Blackcurrant juice
Flavourings
Blackcurrants
Blackcurrant leaves
Rosehips
Citric Acid
Strawberry juice

Linz, If blackcurrants are safe then it appears to be safe.
What are they anyway? Also, I thought you said you hated the
taste of licorice? -Bob

...this doesn't taste of licorice at all to me (plus I'm alot more used to it now as I've drunk so much fennel tea - could NEVER eat a stick of licorice tho. Yuck! ).

Hmm, do you guys not have blackcurrants?

Linz, No, not that I know of unless you English are talking
about blackberries, those we have. They even grow wild around
where I live. They're also very tastey, and high in IF. -Bob

I don't see anything that might cause any GI side effects, except maybe the citric acid. Could that make your GERD worse?

I read somewhere that licorice root does help with peptic ulcers and GERD--so that's a plus. This must be due to its anti-inflammatory effects? However, long-term use of licorice can increase your blood pressure.

Sounds like a delicious tea! How long have you been drinking it?

I've been drinking it about a week now. The extra GI stuff I had was explained yesterday when my period arrived.

The tea is scrummy, makes the kitchen smell nice AND wakes me up. I'm happy with it.
