I must attend a dinner at which lobster, steamer clams, potatoes and salad will be served. Can I eat boiled or broiled lobster or clams if I avoid the butter/sauces?

Yum! Lucky you. Lobster and steamers are always fine for me with no butter. I make this delicious broth with fresh herbs, bottled clam juice, white wine and onions. We use it to dip the lobster and clams. It also keeps the lobster nice and hot. I guarantee you will not miss the butter. I know you are not preparing the meal yourself, but you could try this next time. You should be safe if you eat some plain potato first and salad last. Enjoy! artist

Yes, lobster is fine to have with no butter or sauce, as long as you have your soluble fiber with it. I'm not sure how you're potatoes will be prepared, so double check them to be safe. Otherwise, have some white bread/rolls if they have some. Or, you can always take a fiber supplement before you eat.
