I'm Canadian. You can purchase it in my area (Waterloo, Ontario) at Zehrs/Loblaws. Health food stores carry it around here, as well.

Kate.

Thanks Kate! I'll have to check our Food Coop, I know our HFS
wouldn't carry it. Thunder Bay is only 90 miles away, but
that's by boat<laugh>-Bob

Are you guys looking for completely vegan cheeses? Cause I get rice cheese, though it contains casien. It tastes much better then soy cheese! I've never had any problems with it either.

Follow Your Heart Vegan Cheese is the best "fake cheese" not sure if it has carageenan--although im pretty sure it does. it melts just like real cheese and tastes really good too! it comes in mozz, cheddar and nacho [EW but OK for nachos ]
vegan cheese

Thanks for the suggestion! I've seen it at my HSF. It does contain carrageenan, but is vegan so I'll have to try it. Especially if it tastes good!

Actually, I really love Lisanette Almond Cheese, but it contains casein and carrageenan and I'm not ready to test that combination again.

Unfortunately, I am a sensitive to casein, which is a milk protein. I've tried rice cheese once before--I don't remember the brand name but at the time I decided I'd stick with the soy.

Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe I should take a look at other rice cheeses and give them a chance.

I've tried Soy Station before--mozzarella, I believe. I can't remember why I stopped eating it. Perhaps it contained casein or carrageenan? Well, I'll take a look at it again. Thanks!

I bought some Vanilla Almond Breeze last night and had a cup of it chilled. I bet it would taste great heated up or added to Teeccino! I did notice more gas those days I drank the Chocolate Almond Breeze...a lot more gas. But no attacks, so I'm going consider it my new treat!

How do I determine if this is a problem ingredient?

BTW, I've never found a rice cheese without casein.

It wasn't too much of a problem although I did have more gas...but I think if I drank a lot of it (more than 1/2 cup) and consumed other carrageenan-containing products I would go back to having really bad cramps. I swear, cutting out carrageenan really made a big difference when I first started the diet.

Most flavors of Vitasoy are carrageenan-free and they taste delicious! When you're ready to try a soy milk, I'd recommend Vitasoy Creamy Original Soymilk. Watch out for Vitasoy Complete, which I bought because it had added vitamins and minerals, but it also contains extra fiber (acacia gum) AND carrageenan. Whoa!

Soy Dream Original and Vanilla flavor are carrageenan free as well, although they have a bit of an after taste.

As for rice milks, I really like Rice Dream Original with cereal or as a milk sub in soups, mashed potatoes, etc. I haven't tried the chocolate flavor yet...I wonder if it would taste good. I guess anything chocolate is worth a try! Thanks for the suggestion!
