I didn't think that mayo had dairy in it either. I always thought that it was just the fat content and whether or not it had HFCS in it that was the problem. Regardless... Hellmann's Light is the only one that I've found to be tolerable. No HFCS in it, no dairy, & lower in fat.

I never heard of mayo having dairy in it either, are you guys sure about that?? I agree with the Hellmann's, although I get the "2 Good" kind, I think it has only 2 grams of fat? It's the one that's less the the light. Works pretty well and haven't had any problems with it Also it tastes MUCH better then any of the fat free kinds out there.

I use light mayo all the time and it doesn't bother me. Not be a bearer of bad news, but I have gotten an attack from eating a sandwich at a restaurant that was smothered in full-fat mayo. I think it was just too much for my system to handle. Since then I always ask for the mayo on the side and put a teensy bit on the sandwich. Just a tip for the future. You'll probably be fine having mayo in with the tuna just this once, but it might not be something you want to make a habit of. Making it at home with LF mayo, however, is something you can do all the time! Enjoy!
BTW, I used Hellman's reduced fat mayo. It comes in a jar with a green top.

I'm also lactose intolerant but I make my own mayo. You can make your own with oil and 1 egg. It takes about 1 cup of oil to emulsify 1 egg. Mix with a hand held mixer until it's completely emulsified. Add salt, a pinch of mustard seed and a little lemon juice and it'll be perfect.
We never bought mayo when I was growing up because it's so easy to make and you never know what's really in the store brands. If you're afraid of the raw egg you don't have to make it, but boxers, atheletes and trainers eat raw eggs all the time. I swallowed raw eggs when I was young and was trying to gain weight-- it didn't work but I never got sick either.
Good luck!

I can usually tolerate a tablespoon or two on my tuna. But I do get nauceous from resteraunt tuna, because they put loads of mayo in it. I try to stick to plain food when I eat out likeplain bread and baked potaotes with a bit of salt.
