OK, I am a D, and having a reeeeally rough time of it, so much more D than normal. I had a bad attack Saturday that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning and lasted until around 9:00. Thing is, though, it was really only (haha! "only"!) pain. It felt kind of like a cross between menstrual cramps and horrid D cramping, only about a million times worse, and came over me in a "wave" kinda like every 10 or so minutes. But, I didn't have D. I did have a couple BMs, but they were very normal, and I think I mainly had them because (a) I was sitting on the toilet anyway, and (b) the cramps/spasms/whatever "encouraged" them to evacuate. My body is not shy about having D -- I could take 10 Imodium and still have a D attack two hours later (and I hadn't taken any more pills than normal) -- so I don't think it was a D attack. It wasn't gas or trapped gas, either. I kind of wonder if it was menstrual-related because I should be getting my period soon.
Anyway, it was really strange! Plus a miserable way to start the holiday weekend! I was pretty much OK the rest of the day, though still somewhat in pain. Does this happen to you guys?

Not that it's nice, it's just awful...but I have this happen a lot. I think it's actually CONSTIPATION that comes out soft from all the spasms. What can i suggest though? No idea. Maybe you're becoming A? Take it from me, and Casey, and Amy, etc...it's a complicated one to have. We don't wish it on you.
Good luck. Def. mention it to your doc.

yep I am an A and start spasming if I get too C and then after the 'plug poo' as I like to call it (ie the little black dehydrated rabbit plop blocking the way) is out...everything else comes rushing...a normal poo..and then sloppy poos. I think its the boy's way of flushing...its better if I try to maintain normal BMs all the time then there is no C to have a D reaction to. But thats an almost impossible task. I am constantly swinging from one to the other - sometimes more subtely than other times. I was woken this morning and 4.45 for my bowels to clear out the latest C. Its horrible and the nausea is yucky that I get. Wishing you luck on your quest for stability!

I think you described the syndrome I experience when I'm A: "the black dehydrated rabbit plop" blocking the way..." and then the torrential mudslide, and then my guts just liquify. I get the whole spasming and nausea. deal as well. I just double over! I'm starting to get those attacks more often, lately. Maybe it's the change of weather, as it's chilly outside. My poos are just parched! It doesn't matter how much I drink.
LOL!

i'm a total D. I couldn't even tell you what constipation felt like unfortunately.
Anyways.. since about august 15th everything for me has gotten progressively worse! especially after my small bowel series on the 20.. but the whole thing started after eating safe thai food on the 15th and since then i'll be all diarrhea at all the most random times.
I honestly have not slept through the night once since then without getting up at least once to have diarrhea. Sometimes two or three times a night. I didn't think that was common with IBS. I've always been woken up during the night with diarrhea but usually only a few times a month, lately its been every single solitare night. IT SUCKS.
I have a colonoscopy on october 3rd so hopefully I can live with this till then.

only this time it did turn into D! UGH. I have never had such pain from D before. I also got really nauseated and came close to throwing up. The really disgusting part *****WARNING -- TMI ALERT***** was that everything started out fairly normal-colored, but then the rest was black (ink-black) with the last of it being green-black. What the heck?? I haven't even eaten anything with artifical colors! I thought maybe the green was from the Imodium ... but I haven't taken any more than normal. Or at least I hadn't at the time. Does Imodium make anyone else green??
I'm not really sure if I should freak out about this or if I'm being a big baby. The main thing that concerns me is how bad the pain is. It does eventually stop, though, so I figure that nothing inside me is getting ready to explode or anything. I'm sort of thinking that I'm being a baby.
Guess I'm a little bit confused with some of the replies when you guys (girls! sorry!) mention constipation. I am totally NOT C. I never get "plugged up". Or were you just talking about your own personal attacks like that?

Ugh, you poor thing! I also heard the thing about IBS not getting you up in the night, but I don't think that's true as other people on the boards have complained about it, too. What tests have you gotten done besides the small bowel?
