What like Motley Crue, Iron Maiden and Megadeath?
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I hear Iron Maiden are touring again... all that noise would certainly 'cleanse' me!
On farm-raised fish.... what's so different about them that they would be worse for you than regular river-going fish? Is it the water they use? The only fish farms I've been to have been trout hatcheries over here, which use the same river water the wild trout live in.

I'd just try and vary what fish you eat...and try to eat some wild as well as farmed (different toxins). I decided to do no more than that as the health benefits to me of eating fish far outweigh the possiblity of increasing my risk of possibly developing something else!
These days you can find people who will say that pretty much anything is dangerous!
But this is something to consider if you're pg or trying to get pg as small amounts of toxins can affect foetuses.

...of farm raised salmon I wlll only eat wild caught now.The "farms" are over crowded, polluted, and the fish consume this pollution in the water, which we then consume when we eat the toxic filled fish.
There is a list someplace (I'll try to find it but I think I threw it out) that lists the fish that are the least likely to be toxic.
What do you mean by a "heavy metal cleanse"? Are you just saying you aren't going to eat the fish anymore...or is there an actual cleanse that you are going to take. I don't think cleanses are considered safe for IBS.

Patagonia has a lot of info on this, but as I can't afford wild salmon too often, I ignore the facts.

Sells frozen wild salmon for 3.99 to 5.99 depending on the type you buy. This is my source for fish. The grocery stores sell the wild for like over 10 dollars a pound.

Having seen the Canadian fish farms off the northern coast of Maine, I am disinclined to eat farm-raised salmon for a variety of reasons. However, the first sentence of the final paragraph of your referenced article states:
Quote:
Following the report, the United States refused entry to salmon from Scottish fish farms after U.S. after tests showed the batches were "unfit for human consumption."
This is the unfortunately common linking of two unrelated facts in order to achieve a desired effect. As far as I can tell, the shipments were turned away because of bacterial contamination - the refusals had nothing to do with the purported contamination by heavy metals. And just so all the facts are on the table, the Scottish salmon farmers contend that the contamination was miniscule and the FDA was acting to benefit the US farm-raised salmon producers.
As for heavy metal cleansing, I assume you're talking about something like chelation therapy for mercury. I don't know enough about any of them to comment specifically, but you should be aware that any "cleansing" diet that requires you to eat or drink harsh chemicals; that introduces chemicals that will exit through your digestive system; or that requires you to starve yourself for some period is likely to worsen your IBS, at least in the short term. I would advise you to consult your doctor before embarking on such a course.
