I'm still in the very beginnings of my IBS learning. There is a steak sauce that I love...Peter Luger's Steak Sauce. I used to add it to everything. I'm still not sure what is safe yet so I'm here asking all of you. Here are the ingredients... Red Ripe tomatoes, Vinegar, Grated Horseradish roots, Sugar, Water, Molasses, soy, anchovies, tamarinds, onions, garlic, eschalots, salt, spices and flavoring

HI Bernie, It looks safe for the most part, except for maybe the horseradish roots, it seems that would probably be a bit hot. -Bob

it looks okay, like it is probably low fat or no fat. Beware of the acidity though, if acid bothers you, remember tomatoes and vinegar are acidic.

Depending on your IBS food sensitivies, the only two things that are truly safe on your list are the water and sugar! Personally, I would die if I tried to eat any of the other ingredients, many of which are known IBS triggers. Actually I wouldn't be able to have the sugar either because I have blood sugar problems!

Unless this is super high fat - and I don't see how it could be unless there's an awful lot of anchovy in it - I don't see what other people are finding objectionable here. There are no true trigger foods in this sauce. Some people with IBS do not tolerate spicy foods well and some don't tolerate acidic foods well, but that doesn't mean you won't. I personally can eat ketchup, mustard, cocktail sauce, spaghetti sauce, and chili until it's coming out of my ears with no problems.
Having said that, I will caution you that if you're not yet stable, you might want to hold off on this until you're further along. Until you're stable, you won't be able to tell whether the spiciness and/or acidity is upsetting your stomach.
Once you're ready to try it, approach cautiously: make sure you've got a lot of SF in you and try just a little bit at first. And, of course, don't eat steak with it.

I don't see anything on the list that isn't "safe". However, some items, including the onions, garlic, horseradish, vinegar and tomatoes can cause GI irritation when not eaten with precaution. Heather recommends to continue consuming these, but in moderation and with a good soluble fiber base first.
If you're still at the very unstable stage of your IBS and you're trying to "break the cycle", I would personally recommend avoiding it... at least until you start to feel better, and then slowly add it back in.

I eat highly spiced things all the time. They have never been triggers for me.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
