You know, I've been wondering how well I could handle fruit for awhile now, and this thread inspired me to eat a whole peach as an experiment. I'll let you know in the next 4 to 24 hours if that was a good idea!

I know I can't eat oranges anymore. Nope, not worth it at all.

I am okay with bananas, canned peaches & pears, and some berries.

I remember you posting that you were going to start eating raisin bran again...or Trader Joe high fiber cereal of some type.

How is it working for you? Are you feeling better with the C when you eat it? Shelby eats a bowl of Raisin Bran at night and says it helps her.

I don't know if I should try this as an evening snack. I'm scared to have it as a snack without a SF buffer...but afraid to eat it in the early morning first thing too.

But, I think it might help the C...like you were saying in your post about eating tons of IF and feeling better. Sometimes I wonder if that is just the way to go.

I also wonder if my pain and C and gas is largely caused by the stress of having them! This leads us in a vicious cycle.

Boy, am I glad to hear that I am not the only one! I really have never had a problem with fruit. I can even eat some whole wheat products (mostly cereal). My HUGE triggers are caffeine, carbonation, dairy and high fat junk food.

I'm coming off two years of being ovo-vegetarian, which really didn't work well for me at all. Everything at restaurants that is veggie is usually drenched in cheese. Now I can have a nice piece of fish or chicken and not be the center of attention anymore.

Thanks for everyone's responses!!

Hi Beth, I had started eating 2 cup bowls of Raisin Bran
about an hour after my oatmeal in the morning, but I got
really bad gas from it, and have cut it back to 1 cup bowls
and the gas is much better. Yeah, I was able to eat tons of
IF at my sister's in Chicago at the end of May, but I haven't
been able to come close since. I can't exactly figure out why?! My latter morning BM's have been a bit better for a
about a week now. I think this might be the Paxil since
it's been a month that I've been taking it. The early
morning BM's are still pretty hellish though . Also,
I said exactly the same thing about the vicious cycle!
Teaching classes at school starts for me tomorrow, I'm
just praying that it goes ok. -Bob

I haven't noticed bananas to make me C. And as for the peach skins... I've never really liked the texture of them, so I peel them for that reason.

Is the one cup helping with the consipation? new

Do you tolerate one cup after the oatmeal? Have you ever tried eating it without the oatmeal?

Do the raisins bother you with the higher fructose level?

Sorry so many questions...I'm so tempted, but scared to try this. Maybe I might start with plain bran flakes first, I'm so chicken...plus, I don't want to shell out money for a box of cerel, eat one bowl, and have to throw the whole box out...I already have had to do that too much with food. On a limited budget, that's hard because it means going without something else.

Beth, I think the one cup does help with the C, but I'm not
entirely sure. I used to eat it without oatmeal before I
knew any better. In fact, I used to eat 2 cups of Trader Joe's
RB with oat clusters, 18 grams IF! Now, I betcha I'd be burping nonstop if I did that. Raisin brans do have a very
good rep with helping C though. No,I don't seem to have
problems with raisins. They're in the oatmeal cookies I
eat(which also have shortening and presumably whole eggs
in them) and they don't bother. In fact, I just finished
eating two. Plain bran flakes to start would probably be
a good idea. When you get RB, I recommend Kellogg's brand,
and let them soak in the 'milk', they get nice and mushy
that way, and are very easy to eat. Same thing with the
plain bran flakes, let them soak too. -Bob

...as long as I don't push it too much. Good source of IF!
