What do IBS-C people define an "attack"?

For D, the attack from foods is usually defined as explosive diarrhea...but I have read posts where C people say that a food triggered an attack. If we are battling C all the time, what would the attack be? An attack of pain? Is that what C people mean when they say a food triggered an attack?

Or is it more sever C? But that would be pretty difficult to pinpoint on a particular food.

Just wondering. Thanks, as always.

Hi Cyndy, With me I get bad indigestion, gas, loss of appetite, nausea sometimes. I guess the C may be worse then,
but it's hard to say. -Bob

For me it starts with cramping and then to the bathroom. The intestines take over and I go and go and go (NOT D). I get the sweats, light headedness and sometimes pass out. It's like some alien has hold of my intestines and is squeezing and twisting them. After a while it will subside and I am so weak I can hardly make it to the bed. Then just as soon as I start to relax another wave comes on and it all happens again. Sometimes 5 or 6 times or more. After that I sleep. For a few days after I am sore inside.

Since I've become pretty stable, it is easy to pinpoint when things are getting bad. But, even when things are not moving many syptoms are the same. The urgency that you have to go and when you try...rabbit pellets at best...nothing at its worst.

Cramping, severe bloating, LOTS of gas...always let me know when I've eaten too much or the wrong thing. Hope this helps.

I have two kinds of "attacks". I get a stabbing pain on my lower left side - it's my sigmoid colon. First it's slow and light, and then it gets much faster and hurts so bad that I double over. It brings tears to my eyes. I also get really bloated and have a lot of trapped gas with certain foods. (I don't eat them anymore!) And then there are "safe" foods that at times give me D with major cramping along with it. I am slowly learning which foods cause what and I am staying away from them.

Which foods give you the bloating and gas?

For me it means PAIN!!!

The constipation part can be corrected if you find what works for you and you stick with it. That means your own mix of SFS, SF and ISF foods.

The bloating can usually be corrected (after it starts) by taking A LOT of fennel tea.

For me, all three are helped by exercise, even if it's just walking, but if it's too severe then the heating pad gets dragged out.

All dairy products, anything that has oil or a high fat content. Basically, most of what you are supposed to avoid if you are using Heather's diet. Bananas cause problems for me. Chicken gives me D.
