Diabetes - HELP!

Have just returned from my GP - regular visit due to hypertension and had had blood test this week mainly to check on cholesterol. Well - GP says I probably have diabetes according to the glucose result.
I have been spending the past 9 months trying to take control of my ibs, have struggled with my weight all my life, I am menopausal and now this! I need this like a hole in the head.
Am in shock at the moment - would appreciate any help from fellow sufferers or people with knowledge.
Thankyou.
Judith

I have it as well. If you put "diabetes" in your search box, you will find a bunch of posts about this subject, including food tips.

I can't help in the way of dealing with diabetes...as I am hypoglycemic.....it is the opposite of diabetes...my blood sugar is always low...and I have to snack often to maintain it. I hope that it all falls into place for you!

Definitely do some searches as suggested above!

My husband just got diagnosed, so we're trying to find foods that work for us both. Broiled or smoked fish, roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, brown rice, and barley are all things that work for both of us. He's also found that rye bread doesn't affect his glucose as much as wheat bread does, and it works well with my IBS too (YMMV - I'm IBS-C and am not terribly sensitive to whole grains).

One good thing: you probably don't have to worry about your weight too much with an IBS/diabetes combo. You should be eating fruits (cooked/peeled), veggies (ditto), and low-fat protein - it's all good!
