Hello! I can't seem to break this IBS Cycle. I'm using the soluble fiber powder and I've been doing the soluble diet for about 1 1/2 weeks but every time I try to introduce insoluble fiber I bloat up and I'm extremely "C". I take Milk of Mag. to help with the "C" but I think this is an irriant. Any Suggestions? I'm using the Fennel Tea and the Peppermint Caps - they help but for a short period.

Probably some of the C'ers will have better advice as far as incorporating IF, but my best advice as an A'er is to be patient. I don't want to discourage you, but it took me several months to break the cycle, and I didn't really get "stable" until almost a year on the diet. Keep increasing your SF supplement, stick with the diet, and hang in there... the results are worth the wait, promise.

Also, how are you incorporating the IF foods? It's generally safer at first that they be cooked well and chopped small, if not actually pureed. Too much, too fast, can definitely wreak havoc on your system.

Oh yeah, and yes, the Milk of Mag is an irritant, as are all stimulant laxatives. You'll want to try to use that as little as possible.

HI Reagan
I have been following the BTC for about...3 weeks now. I am slowly introducing IF into my diet..bit by bit. I also take SFS in the morning. I had to take Buscopan and Modulon 4 times a day for about 2 weeks in order to relieve my severe cramping. (I am still on Modulon). Have you been prescribed any meds to help?? I know that Buscopan is a med that you "take as needed".
Hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi Reagan, Milk of Magnesia is technically an osmotic laxative
, the magnesium draws water into the bowel. However, I've
found it can act rather harsh, I've taken a full dose and
gotten D from it in the past and I am C. If you have or can
get Miralax, try using that, it is much gentler. In regards
to IF, make sure you're eating it after or with a lot SF.

The BTC diet is for 3 days MAX if you're C...you then NEED to reintroduce IF safely to avoid getting worse C. Please start doing that today. The Sweet Cinnamon Zucchini Bread is the safest way to start...or some pureed cooked zucchini/peppers in a pasta sauce. All very safe stuff, but you do need some IF.

But yep, no IF at all for 3 weeks is def. likely to make C worse.
