PLEASE post here and help me! I've just barely started going to the doctors to find some potential medicinal relief for my IBS-D. The specialist here (in Vermont) said that until I can get in to see him (I'm going out of town for a bit) I should try taking 2mg (1 tablet) of Immodium AD before breakfast, and one before supper, so about 12 hours apart. That means I'll have 2 tablets- or one regular dose- per day. The doctor said this will calm my intestines but won't be enough of a dose to constipate me (though in my opinion, constipation would be a blessing). Has anyone heard of this? THANKS!!

Many people with IBS D take immodium regularly. Some have stopped their D completely with it. If you are very D prone then it will not have bad consequences. If you alternate between D and C then immodium could cause problems.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

If you Search on Immodium on the Diet Board, you'll find a ton of info about using it as a preventative. You'll need to try both spellings: Immodium and Imodium.
I'm IBS-D (very) and my own experience is that Imodium works wonders when I'm following Heather's diet guidelines and taking an SFS. Without the diet/SFS, even prescription anti-spasmodics like Levsin didn't help during an attack.
