Hi Steph -

Welcome to the boards. (We are the same age!) I am sure you will find Heather's diet terrific. It is amazing what the triggers are.

When I started I thought it was only greasy food but it's so much more than that.

I am sure you will start feeling better soon. If you can I would really suggest getting Heather's books. They are wonderful. I actually just got the First Year with IBS. I bought the cook book first and they are both worth the money.

Anyways - nice to have you join us - enjoy the boards!

HI Lana!

I do have Heather's cook book and I'm going to get her first year book today! I'm so happy to have come across this. Finally something that seems to be working for people. I feel like Dr's. at least the one's I went to don't know much about IBS. They never told me about the different fiber's. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi StephS,
I'm new here too and soooo glad I found this place.
My doctor didn't tell me squat about IBS so, I've learned everything from here. Everyone is really nice and helpful too. Also, if you are looking for food ideas DEFINATLY
check out the recipe area. I can hardly wait to cook some of them.
Anyway, take care and Eat safe!

I completely understand your feelings on the doctors (and I think there is a few more around here too). They really didn't seem to know much about it.

I am going to have to get a copy of the book for my doctor so they will start to help people.

Once again, welcome abroad.

Hi Steph! I am new too and SO glad to have found this board and Heather's books.

One thing I would suggest about the diet is this: if you are not used to eating soy, be a little careful as it can cause gas. Add the soy to your diet gradually and take beano with it. I had trouble with soy milk in particular, but things like Luna Bars and Soy Crisps (both are fabulous, btw) are much easier to manage.

Also, Veggie Slices and "Better than Cream Cheese" are some great non-dairy cheeses that you can get at Trader Joes and health stores.

I think Barbara was directing that comment to me when it said "BL" (short for Beaglelover). (I know, it's a little confusing with us using these abbreviations.) I was just commenting on how young all the newbies seem to be. StephS, you are only 24 and then Lana Marie said she is the same age. (Yes, that does make me feel old, Barbara!) I'm 44 with 17- and 18-year-old sons. Gosh, I COULD be StephS's or Lana Marie's mother! But then, they probably don't pick up their clothes off the floor either. So, I'll pass on "adopting" more children---- although a daughter to go shopping with might be nice. Honestly, age doesn't matter. We all have IBS in common. I just don't feel old, until I hear these twenty-somethings give their age!

Opps, sorry I was directing that towards Beaglelover.

Welcome to the board and hope you find this a helpful place to come to.

Hey now! I can clean up my clothes off the floor - I am so much more mature than that! LOL

I have to pick up the clothes at my house because my husband definately doesn't do it! LOL

Age definately doesn't matter though, you're right!

Oh you didn't offend me!! I'm just like you tired of cleaning up after my kids! I guess I better get used to it. My kids are still young. That means the next 16 years I'll be cleaning!! But I really love being a stay at home mom (well most of the time ) As for you wanting a girl to go shopping with....I take my little one she's 2 yrs old and a handfull!! I can tell she is going to be lots of fun to shop with. I think she will make be broke!!! Take care!

Safeway and Fred Meyer both carry them. They are dairy-free and wheat-free and SO yummy.
