Hi, my name is dan and I was diagnosed in January of this year. Currently, I work in the E/R at our local VA hospital primarily as an 'escort'. I run patients up who need xrays, cat scans, or any other transport thats needed. Due to how hectic this environment can be, this has become more of an issue recently. When our department becomes extremely busy & I'm running all over the place, my system tends to become all worked up and I'm incapable of having a bm. This seems to be happening subconsciously and, at times, soon after I come home, I have a bm, but I can't at work. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This used to happen to me during high school when I was a teenager and was developing anxiety disorders (triggered by "dysfunctional family" problems, etc.). I wouldn't -- then couldn't -- go to the bathroom until I got home (alone) from school (where I felt extremely tense all day). Now, I'm almost thirty and struggle with chronic constipation. If I don't "go" before I leave the house, I know that I won't be "going" at all that day. I'm hoping to find a real solution to my anxiety, and to "retrain" my bowel. Good luck to you, too.

There are two parts to the The Autonomic Nervous System which takes care of digestion that maybe involed in this, sympathetic and parasympathetic. When were under fight or flight sympathetic and when were relaxed parasympathetic.
When your in sympathetic digestion slows down.
When your in parasympathetic digestion is more active.
Here is some info on it all.
