I have been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks in the morning, always in the morning shortly after waking up. I do not sit and think about bad things, instead they seem almost indepedent of me, as if the IBS causes them.
Well, I tried Paxil for 4 weeks without any help. Today my doctor added Lorazepam, and I am having a marvelous day. I swang from the crystal chandelier at the Bank and then I got behind the meat counter at Walmart and helped beat a few slabs of beef with a hammer while singing an old tune "Yummy, yummy, yummy, Ive got love in my tummy!"
What a day!
Seriously, my doctor DID put me on this new anti-anxiety drug and it has at least today done miracles. ALL anxiety is gone. I slept 12 hours last night, and my IBS symptoms have vanished (or are in conference trying to figure out how to strike back - stupid subconscious won't just support me on this!). Any one else try this drug? I hear a lot of folks take Lexapro and don't know why I got this drug with a name that makes me want to spray it on frying pans, but it sure has made me one mellow boy. Just think!!! This is how 80% of the American people live every day, at least in the abdomenal area!
The drug has side effects, such as making hair grow out of your nose at a rate of an inch per day, but I have a scissors ready.

That's great news! I hope it continues to make you feel this good all the time I wish I had found something that agreed with me. Sadly I've yet to find one Lol on the scissors. I'm glad you have some ready to go

You are quite possibly the funniest guy I've "met". Once you get this IBS under control, I know some people in high places in the comedy circuit here in Canada-they made Jim Carrey famous. Come on up here man. They'd eat you up!

Hi, Anthem! I love your description of lorazepam and how it affects your mood! Do you get the "lorazepam hangover" the next day? Or are you using it daily? I take 1 mg of lorazepam as needed for panic attacks or times of high anxiety (if I take 2 mg I'm really out of and pass out).
In dealing with GAD, I've had better results with Buspar (anti-anxiety med taken daily which doesn't have the same addictive qualities as lorazepam) and cognitive behavioral therapy w/ a counselor (only three sessions so far but they've made a tremendous difference in how Icontrol my anxiety).
I also notice when I take the lorazepam that much of my pain and IBS symptoms seem to disappear, either that or I just don't care about them anymore! After almost seven months on this diet and managing stress/anxiety I have many more pain-free days now. I can't believe it! Ten years of cramping every day--I'd forgotten what it felt like not to have pain. I'm in shock, I tell ya!
Back to lorazepam: I love being able to get a full night's sleep without waking up every hour. However, you have to be careful with lorazepam and other benzodiazepenes because they are highly addictive and you can build up a tolerance to them. I've heard of people going into rehab to get off them. I'm sure they're okay for short term or "as needed" use. How long and how often did your doctor prescribe you to take them?
Take care!

I got that same reaction when I was 19 and went on diet pills. I was soooooo happy and hyper the first few days then suddenly wanted to flush my head down the toilet and called in mental to work. That, of course, will not happen on Lorazepam....but I'm so happy you found something to really perk you up! That's fantastic!

I've read a lot on this drug and, as you said, it is it addicting and can be dangerous. My doctor refuses to prescribe it. It is only intended for short term use.
Anthem, please be careful. I know it is helping you and it's hard to give something that wonderful up...but just be in touch with your doctor with this drug.
