I don't know if anyone has heard of this but this candy that a friend of mine here at work gave me and she has IBS also (but not as bad as most of here) but it works to help calm the stomach down. They are called Ginger Chews and they are made by the The Ginger People and you can get them at Trader Joes.

They work. Every time my stomach starts getting a little grumbly I take one or two and about 5 minutes later my stomach is just fine. They are spicy hot when you bite into them but after awhile that goes away. They don't taste that bad also. I just thought I would share and hope others out there could use them.

Have a great day!!!!

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I didn't know that. I hadn't even heard of this type of candy until my friend brought some in and now I love it. When I run out of this bag I will have to look into the hard candy.

Thanks for the info.

I keep a baggie of them in my fridge at all times. They're excellent for nausea and things like that, but I'm just completely hooked on the taste of them. The hard ones just weren't as tasty to me... I love the peppery-ness of the chews. Yum!

I don't know if I am going to be that helpful, but Altoids makes Ginger candy too. That might be easier to find.

Do you think that maybe you could order them online. Try and look up Traders Joes online and see if they can ship them to you. Believe me they are worth it. I love them as well. I make sure I have some where ever I go just in case. You never know.

I hope you can get some.

You can order loads of lovely gingery things, including the Chews, from the Ginger People's online site: http://www.gingerpeople.com/. Everything there looks so dang good....

Does everyone who likes the ginger candy like ginger tea? I'm not too impressed with the 'bite' of the ginger tea, but I know ginger is one of the best things for stomachs. Any chance at all I might like the ginger candy??

The candy is quite hot, more so than tea I think.

Do you have an oriental market anywhere nearby? I buy the candied ginger root and it's wonderful. Make sure you get an all-natural one that is just diced ginger and pure cane sugar, no HFCS. It's spicy sweet and wonderfully settling.

No, I don't like plain ginger tea, even though I will sit and eat crystalized ginger (or Ginger Bears!) like they're going out of style. The tea seems a little too bitey for me.

However, I like teas where ginger is one of many ingredients, like Yogi's Stomach ease. And ginger limeade is really delicious....

I think ginger tea is NASTY. Refuse to drink the stuff. To me, it just tastes flat and... well, like dishwater, no matter how strong I try to make it. Ginger candy is actually quite a bit stronger with the ginger flavor, so if you're not crazy about ginger, I'm not sure how you'll like it... on the other hand, it's sweeter, so it kind of balances out.
