The Pill- Question for perople that are taking it

Hi
I have to go to the doctor's next month because my period is really severe and the pain med I was taking doesn't work as well as it use to and I went on stronger med and it only helped a little so now I need to go on the pill. I was wondering what the doctor does when he/she is checking you out to see if you can go on it. I know blood pressure but not much else. I would like to know so I can be ready for it. It's going to be so hard to go to the doctor since I have severe IBS. But I have no choice since my period is extremely bad and I it's worse since I have severe IBS c.
Also , Can the pill make IBS worse? Thanks very much.

I have extreme periods where the meds the doctor gives me doesn't help so I was put on the depo shot as a birth control that helps stop the pain.
When you go to the doctor usually they just give you a perscription for a birth control and you try it for a couple of months see if it works and if not they'll prescribe you a new one.
The doctor will recommend that that you have a pap smear once a year but probally wont do it the day that you get your perscription because you need to book an longer appointment time. He will probally take your blood pressure though and ask you some questions about your period and family history.
The doctor will recommend that you see a specialist if your pain persists after you try several different types.
And if you've never had a pap smear it's not that bad! I myself believe the worst tests that I have been through are the tests for IBS. So the worst is over!

When I went on the pill, I had gone in for my annual pap and I told him I wanted to go on and he gave me the prescription. He may have asked me some questions, but as far as physically checking me, that was all. Plus the standard, blood pressure, weight, temp, etc., that they do for any dr. visit.
Since the pill is adjusting your hormones, it can affect your IBS for the good, for the bad, or not at all. It should reduce the symptoms of your period (cramps, how heavy) which may help your IBS symptoms during that time.

BTW: If you're pill is making you feel worse, let them know and they can switch you to a different kind that may not make you feel as bad.

Hi I have been taking Yasmin B.C. and it has seemed to help with my symptoms (Crohn's) of course I take Pentasa (capsule) also. but have had very good luck with both meds. Ask your doctor about all the different types of pills out there!! There are a lot! Good luck, this is the third B.C. pill I have used and it doesn't make me feel to uneven mood wise.

I am too on the pill and have been on MANY kinds, for the last 14 years, to get it right. I have severe endometriosis and have horrible periods. I am currently on a pill called Mircette. I like it a lot. My suggestion is to start with the lower dose/mini-pills first and see how you do on them. You can always work your way up to something stronger later if needed. Different pills, in my experience, can effect your moods and IBS in different ways. I would stay away from Depo and only use it as a last resort. There was recently a few postings on Depo. Good luck!

I am on Mircette too, longer than I have had symptoms of IBS. I am on a pretty low dose. I haven't noticed any problems with IBS and the pill other than a SLIGHT increase of some symptoms, but nothing that would stop me from taking it. Other than it keeps my periods to 4 days long and the benifets far outweigh the cons.

I was on the pill before I developed IBS, I haven't noticed any changes myself, I do get a little bit of a stomach ache when I take it though so i've always taken it at night before I go to bed. I'm on desogen (28 day) by the way.

I had IBS for about 6 months before I got on the pill, and did not notice any changes. I also have really bad cramps and have been on 4 different types of pills - and still trying to find one that works.  However, I have not noticed any difference in my IBS between the different pills.

I have found the pill doesn't cause me any extra problems. I was on it for 7 years and did get attacks every now and then. Well since I have gone off the pill (for 3 months now) I still get attacks. They are no less frequent or severe so I really don't agree with the pill being a trigger.
Atleast for myself anyway. I have never had any trouble. And remember "D" is a symptom of alot of pills anyway so don't assume that it's your IBS right away. I would try a few different pills before assuming that.
