is it normal to have problems with peanuts and popcorn with IBS? These two foods cause me such pain.

Yes - peanuts because of the fat and insoluble, and popcorn because the hard kernals are all insoluble and cause problems.
I've found I can tolerate some hull-less popcorn, when I'm stable and not on an empty stomach. You can have a tiny bit of peanut butter on white bread. The bread makes it safer. Or, you could probably try a couple of peanuts in a recipe (I can't think of anything right now in particular), if they were chopped up & with a safe soluble base.

Oh, man, one day I was in Target and I was starving. I got a bag of popcorn (it smelled so good!) and ate it while I shopped. This was on an empty stomach. I was in severe pain for several days. My stomach was so bloated I thought it was going to explode!

I don't eat either, because it causes bloating and stomach aches. Even my hands will bloat from eating anything with peanuts in it.
