I would avoid Butterbread - it likely contains butter. I'm not familiar with the other brands off the top of my head to really recommend them. There's a couple brands I like, and I do know they're dairy-free, but they *might* contain high fructose corn syrup (I'm not sensitive to it, especially in such a small amount, so I don't worry about it). Friehofer's split-top white is one of them.
When looking for sliced bread, first look for the marking "Parve" or "Pareve" on the front, usually down near the lower right corner. This means these breads contain no dairy - it's easier than looking through the tiny print of the ingredients list!
You'll also want to avoid whole wheat, whole grain, or any that contain obvious trigger foods in the name of the bread, like the Butterbread. I would also be wary of the whitewheat - it sounds like it does have wholewheat flour in it.
Unfortunately, reading the labels is the best advice I can give you. You might have to try bakery breads instead, if you really can't find anything you trust.

to find nonwhole grain bread with no dairy and no HFCS! I just went through this lately. I don't think there are any at my regular grocery store (there are english muffins and bagels and baguettes and ciabatta that is safe but no sliced bread). I order my grocery from a place that delivers and they have 2 safe sliced breads. One is english muffin bread and is good toasted and the other is heavy white bread which for some reason is high in cals. So it takes a lot of searching and looking at every single loaf! When you find one you can buy extra and freeze the loaves just fine. That is good if you go to a HFS every so often. Also bread that is nonwhole grain and no dairy and no HFCS is very safe so don't be afraid to try it. You can list the ingredients here if you have doubts about it.

koeplingers (?) had no triggers except in their butter white... no dairy, no hfcs... I looked at hamburger buns and like 6 types of bread without seeing triggers.. all at Meijers! woohee! since 2 of the last 3 loaves of "safe enough" bread I bought had mold in them even refrigerated within 3 days!

I looked at Thomas' English Muffins today and they have dairy and HFCS in them. Do these not bother you or have you found another brand that doesn't contain them? (I love English Muffins.)
Thanks.

I usually have better luck going to the bakery section of my gorcery store and looking there. I buy and English toasting bread there that is safe except it does have HFCS listed. It must be a very small amount because it doesn't bother me at all. This is the WalMart bakery.

I'm not Tamara, but the only non-dairy English muffins I've been able to find are Whole Foods brand (not sure about HFCS, because like Casey, I'm not sensitive to it, I eat Thomas's bagels that have HFCS in them 1-2x/day).

I was just going to write back and say, "Nope, no Wegmans", but decided to check their Website. We do have some in NJ. None of them are close enough for a quick run, but a couple are in places I get to now and then. I'll make a note to check them out then and stock up - I think someone else has mentioned something else (how's that for specific) they get at Wegmans. I'll do a Board search and then plan some quality label-reading time when I'm in the area of one. Thanks!

are you near a whole foods? just next to their bakery section, is usually the sliced packaged bread and theres a brand, RUDYS ORGANICS, that makes a white bread that is 100% trigger-free! its vegan so already theres no dairy, eggs or other animal products in it--AND its organic, so no preservatives!! and DEF. no HFCS [which just shouldnt be in bread anyways!] theres *i think* 5 or 6 other kinds of loaves, a wheat one, honey-wheat, sourdough, a grain one and so-forth. that bread has never caused a problem for me except comfort. but like all bread, eat it spaced out, otherwise, if youre prown to C--too much bread can cause it good luck!

I was just thinking about this as I ate an English muffin. You know you should check the store more carefully because they put some English muffins by the bread and some in the cold section by the cream cheese or by the tortillas. So some muffins are refrigerated and some are not. Maybe there are muffins you are not seeing. I hope there is a safe store brand for you!

I also buy store brand English muffins because they don't contain dairy. I know P&C and Big M stores carry Food Club, which is safe.
As for breads, have you ever thought of investing in a bread machine? I own a Breadman, and it's one of the best buys I ever made. You can put whatever you want into your bread, plus homemade bread is sooo much tastier. Just a thought!

I didn't read this whole thread, but even though you live in NOrth jersey, you should have a Shop Rite around, right? That is my favorite grocery store... and thier English Muffins contain no dairy, same thing with thier sliced bread, hamburger rolls, and hotdog buns (I am PRETTY sure about the sliced bread, I don't really use it at all, so you need to double check). Thomas Muffins and WOnder Bread, all the name brands seem to ALWAYS have dairy. Pathmark name brand (don't know if htey are up north) I believe doesn't have dairy either (never bought english muffins from there). I have never bought bread from Acme. I go to alot of grocery stores! If you go to Trader Joes they have French and Sourdough bread that doesn't contain dairy, either. Never checked out thier English Muffins. Whole Foods might have something too, i think they sometime have vegan baked goods, but never bought that kinda stuff from there, I try to put myself on a strict $$$ limit there or I would walk away with like thousands in groceries, haha.
Good luck!
