Hi Everyone,

An update on my progress and a report on the "Fruit-Eze" fiber supplement. I've gone from constipation to loose stool/diarrhea. I thought it was the Natural Calm (magnesium) supplement, but I stopped that for two days and still had the loose stools (2x/day, not like D several times a day).

So it looks like the Fruit-Eze has had a dramatic effect on getting things moving. HOWEVER, the gas, bloating and cramping has also come back during the time I've been taking Fruit-Eze. Not too surprising considering what's in it.

Also, I cut down to a much lower dose of Zelnorm and it seems to be working better than the HIGHER dose I was taking. I went from 6mg to 2mg. My doctor only wants me to take it once a day, because he says that will prevent the body from getting used to it and then I can take it for longer.

If I could only find a way to treat the constipation without causing more gas, bloating and pain. That's been my dilemma for years now!

Chris

Well, C to D? wow...

I totally understand about choosing between having a BM and having more cramps and bloat and gas! I am now experiencing the same thing with Omega fish oil. Helps the BMs some, put increases the cramps, gas, bloat... Oh, why must we choose from increased other symptoms in order to get better results with another symptom? Not fair!

So, curious what you are going to do about taking the Fruit-Eze. Are you going to continue taking it, despite the gas and cramps? Maybe cut the dose?

Surprises me that decreasing the zelnorm dose improved the effect. I have not had that experience at all! The few times it did work, it had to be at the full dose! So, you only take 2 mg once a day? Did your doctor tell you it worked better this way, or did you experiment on your own?

Maybe if you stopped taking the Fruit-Eze and just took the Natural Calm it might give you the BM withouth the gas and cramps? But I've heard others say magnesium can cause gas and cramps as well. As you say, this has been our dilemma for years. We need something that treats the full spectrum of symptoms.

Well, it's not actually "D" in the sense of frequent BMs. But 2 loose/watery stools per day. Better than nothing, for sure, but I can still tell something isn't right in there.

On the Zelnorm: I did some research and learned that some people react better to smaller doses. Who knows why. My doctor was the one who suggested taking it only once per day to prevent tachyphalaxis (tolerance) that normally happens with it after a few weeks.

Magnesium does cause a lot of gas and cramps for me. That's why I stopped taking it. Perhaps I could try a lower dose.

I'm probably going to lower the dose of the Fruit-Eze too.

Today my doctor FINALLY returns to the office. I'm going to do everything in my power to get him on the phone!
