I just read about the importance of doing cleanses to help with IBS, and see Heather doesn't talk about cleanses. Is it necessary to do a cleanse or does eating properly for IBS basically do the job to make one's symptoms dramatically minimized? I'd really appreciate feedback from others on this question because I'm wondering if doing a cleanse is necessary or whether following Heather's diet suggestions will be enough. Thanks.

Cleanses are NOT recommended here for IBS, because they are very traumatic to an already screwed-up bowel.
Eating properly will resolve your symptoms - not necessarily quickly, but long-term, which is more important, right? If you're not familiar with the diet already, including how to break the cycle of attacks and how to reintroduce foods back into your diet afterwards, I really suggest reading through the diet information here on the site. Good luck!

It depends on the kind of cleanse you do. If you try an herbal cleanse you will pay for it (with intense pain) for many weeks afterward. But if you do a food "cleanse" then the effects will be beneficial.
