Is it only available through the company or is it available through retail? I checked their website & didn't see a "where to buy" option. I haven't seen it at any local HFS, but I can do a more thorough search. Thanks!

I went to their website. It looks like you can order it online from them.

I just wanted to say that a year ago I was put on a ten day course of flagyl and the gastro gave me a ten day supply of VSL#3 - for all the time I was on the flagyl I got no D etc from the flagyl...as soon as I stopped taking the VSL#3 the D etc came - it really is a GREAT probiotic...I wish it was more widely available. Good luck!

And it is very, very expensive, especially as a maintainance probiotic. It cost like 30 bucks for a ten day supply.

Whoa! You aren't kidding--that is expensive! I think I'll pass on it for now, but thanks to everyone for their responses.

I don't know if you saw this when you checked their Website, but they have kind of an odd caution about dairy also. ( web page)

The price does go down some if you buy in bulk ($23.80 per box for 12 boxes or more; each box contains 10 packets) and there is some indication that you might be able to get away with 1/2 packet per day ( web page). So you could get your cost down to $11.90 for a 10-day supply, if you buy a lot and use a half-packet. If you buy a lot and use a whole packet, it's $23.80 for a ten-day supply.

My GI guy recommended Flora-Q (which I'm laying off to try) and I found that for $25.00 for 30 capsules, or $8.33 for a 10-day supply.

I found Primal Defense caplets for $54.57 for 180 caplets (normal dosage is 3 caplets per day, although "Advanced Use" is 6-12 per day). Assuming normal dosage, that's $9.09 for a 10-day supply.

So if you buy VSL#3 in bulk and use a half-packet, it's in the ballpark with a couple of other probiotics ($11.90 versus 8.33 and 9.09). If you don't buy in bulk and/or use a whole packet, it's about twice as much. And there's also a suggestion that some people use 2 packets. Now we're talking some serious money!
