Where as in the past I was mostly IBS D with this condition I now seem to be having more periods of constipation or more difficult movements.
I do take psyllium daily having tried other products but in cases where it does not help completely do I trust going to a stronger laxative or just stay with fibre and wait?
I have ratio-lactulose (Acilac) and I'm wondering if any one has tried it and what was it effects?

hi, hmm---as painful as it may be, probably waiting is the best b/c when you use a laxative, your bowel goes right back to point 1 of relying on a medication. i used laxatives alot in my beginning ibs days and found it harder for my bowel to function on its own. it took nearly 6 months of this pattern for me before i made a change. if youre feeling "stopped up", look at what you ate during the day to see if that couldve contributed. or total up the amount of fiber youre taking to see if you are/are not getting enough. sometimes constipation occurs from too much fiber which sounds strange but its true. better to stick it out b/c the progress you make will just be erased it you let the laxative do the work for you

Thanks for reply. Sort of echoing my thoughts. Psyllium I can't avoid but as you say once you start a laxitive then you may become dependent.

I think it depends on the laxative. If they are stimulant-free, they are less likely to cause dependency (according to my GI). I take miralax or magnesium caplets daily, both of which my GI claims will not cause dependency.
