Stool softeners

I've read everything I can on this board about colace (stool softener). I've been taking 2 tabs every day and have been having wonderful BMs, but I can't help but be worried about consequences of long term use. Everyone here says its safe to take every day and you don't become dependent on it, however the colace and Medline Plus websites, and my pharmacist, all warn not to take colace (docusate sodium) for longer then a week.

I'm really confused. I don't want to create more problems for the long term. I've read that people's doctors have suggested colace is safe for long term use, so why are there warnings to not take it for longer then a week?

Any comments much appreciated

I don't know about the specific product, but remember that drug companies aren't allowed to say you can take it long term if they haven't done specific research into taking it long term.
