I thought Stevia was safe. Then I was reading some posts here which said lose the Stevia. I thought that was the only safe sweetener. I use it in my tea and since I am not totally stable yet I am just wondering.
I was eating oatmeal for a while and thanks to Beth and some of the posts here, I realized that it was actually making me worse. Takng that out of my diet helped incredibly.
So if anyone has any advice on stevia I would appreciate it. I am not sure if it is causing problems-I don't think so, so far.
Thanks,
Mary

I love stevia.. it doesn't make me worse, and is safe, but its a trigger for some I guess, though most of what I'd read said positive things about it... its the aritficial sweeteners that are bad for you... stevia is a natural alternative to sugar...

I have no problems with it. I'm major C-IBS and this may be the diff between those of us who can use it and those who can't ie: being C vs D.
Are you D or C? I always thought that oatmeal was no problem for C.

I am C. So far no problems with the stevia. I am gluten intolerant and the oatmeal is not safe for most people with it. Some gluten intolerant folks can eat it others cannot. I tried and thought I could and that it was just the IBS. But when I took it out of my diet I was a lot less bloated.
I use benefiber every day and take miralax. They help. but when I ate oatmeal I went like clockwork. But I was crampy and bloated all the time.

Very interesting that you can't eat oatmeal due to gluten intolerance. How did you figure out that you had gluten intolerance?
Also, why do you use benefiber instead of acacia? How much B do you use each day?
Lastly.....promise! ......how well does miralax work for you and does it cause you to have gas now or did it originally when you first started using it? How much of it do you take every day?
Thanks!

Hi Again,
Gluten Intolerance-I was tested and my blood tests came back positive for celiac sprue-gluten intolerance.
I started taking benefiber before Heather's diet and I didn't want to switch and have to get used to acacia. The fiber in benefiber and acacia are the only 2 natural fibers. Acacia is gum arabic and benefiber is guar gum. (I have totally screwed upt he spellings here I think) I take it in the AM and PM and it helps a lot.
The miralax was prescribed by my doc to help with the C. It didn't really help until I put it all together with the diet. I take 1 cap ful a day. I had a little gas at the beginning I guess. But it makes a huge difference so I keep taking it.
IBS is is so trial and error-it's amazing any of us are still sane.
