Ok you guys, HELP. My husband wants to take out 4 rambunctious children camping for 6 nights all the way to Kentucky(we're Michigan). How do I do this? The stress of it, staying on the diet(I can't live without Heather's diet). Any brights ideas? Please!!!!!! I'm really nervous which is probably making the extra bloating and crap(excuse Me) that I'm feeling even now. We're not even going until end of June. DH says I worry too much, maybe he's right. I do know that some advice from you guys will really ease my mind. thanks guys.

Ooo, I love camping. And you guys have got some fantastic countryside!

Just take loads of SF snacks and sort out safe foods - like if your hubby is taking sausages, make sure you take turkey/veggie sausages too. And take all your SFSs and meds in little plastic pots. Take herbal tea bags too...herbal tea is great for camping as you don't need milk!

Are you D or C? If you're D, I'd take Immodium (or more Immodium) for the duration of the trip.

Oh, and pack a packet of wet wipes...so much nicer on your bum wherever you are (and easier to pack than rolls of nice TP! ).

My hubbyloves to camp and I do sometimes! I have to be in the right mood. I haven't camped since I was diagnosed with IBS, but I would say to make a batch of Rice Krispies, take pretzels, bakes Lay's, turkey dogs or veggies dogs, turkey burgers. Good luck with 4 kids!!!

that makes a difference since many of the KY state parks have lots of on site resources and lodges.. a) its not expensive to stay indoors if you'd prefer, b) its not bad even for tent campers to have access to indoor facilities.. there are lodges with restaurants, etc.. and most of them aren't that far from grocery stores either to help...

I went camping last summer when I was trying to stabilize and here are a few suggestions of things I ate:

-Grilled chicken
-Grilled shrimp
-Potatoes (wrapped in foil roasted over coals, took skin off after cooked)
-turkey hotdogs (some IBSers can handle them, some can't)
-turkey burgers (some IBSers can handle them, some can't)
-Found a Pancake Mix from a whole foods store that didn't contain any triggers (can't remember brand I will try and find and let you know)
-Scrambled egg whites and sourdough english muffins
-Baked Lays
-Baked Turkey Lunchmeat and sourdough bread
-AD Brownies for a treat (topped with a roasted marshmellow over the fire)
-Drank alot of tummy mint tea by Celestial Seasonings
-I took soy milk and soy butter along

I camp ALOT and have found that these things keep in a cooler as long as you keep the ice fresh. Good Luck.

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought of turkey hot dogs. Didn't even know they made them. Maybe I'll try them before I leave. You guys are great!

We are staying at a Jellystone near mammoth cave. We camp because most hotel type places make us get 2 rooms and be seperated. Too big a family you know.

I'm mostly D with a little C every once and awhile. I haven't taken Immodium since a few weeks after I went on Heather's diet. Thanks, I think I might have forgotton that. Are the vegen/turkey hot dogs and/or sausages any good?

it should be fine, jellystone has the lodges, so if you need things you can't get with camping, you have access to them... like the restaurants. I'd relax and just travel with lots of soluble snacks..

Ballpark Fat Free Turkey Franks

Sent straight from the Garden of Eden, I swear...

I even eat them all the time at home, as they are good, quick, and I'm trying to eat more protein.

Excellent.

I haven't tried any of the sausages, but I but you can find some good ones. Just check the ingredients carefully, allot of the "vegetarian" one use cheese to make up some of the bulk (and flavor). Vegan ones will be safer.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip!
