Is aged cheese okay to eat if you eat it with pasta or some other sf?

Cheese is dairy and dairy is not okay on Heather's IBS diet. Insoluble fiber you can cushion with soluble fiber like pasta and eat safely, but the true trigger foods (red meat, dark poultry, dairy, egg yolks) don't work that way. You just have to avoid them.
Sorry.

Cheese is definitely not ok. Dairy is a MAJOR trigger food, and not just because of the lactose. Sorry!

There are ways to work around this! Dairy is definitely a no-no but there are replacements! Have you ever tried soy cheese or rice cheese? My friends ordered pizza a while back and asked for half of one pizza to have NO cheese. When it arrived, I put on some grated soy mozarella cheese I bought at the grocery store and threw it in the oven 'til the cheese melted. Honestly, you could have fooled me that it wasn't just regular ol' pizza! Except with less grease!
Warning: Some soy cheese is not good, I have to be honest. Finding a good one sometimes takes some time, so if you try one that is particularly yucky, don't give up!! There are good ones out there! I can't remember the brand name I got, do a search on the boards for 'soy cheese' and see what you can find.
Good luck!! --Steph

Hi, Have you tried pizza without cheese? I ordered a "vegan" pizza the other day at a restraunt, with no cheese and a few safe-ish veggies, and it was quite tasty. I didn't have any problems with it, either.

Yes. I have bought soy cheese pizza at the health food store and it is good. But when you are at a good pizza place it is so hard to resist pizza with Mozzarella. But I will try it without cheese. Thanks for the input.

...it doesn't work so well with takeaway as they're so boring typically, but restaurants pizzas are yummy....and if you ask for one without cheese you usually get extra topping!

No cheese (and for me very little sauce) -- and with whatever toppings I want. It really isn't too bad -- and cuts the fat way down too!

I've ordered restruant pizza this way, and loved it. BBQ chicken in particular really just doesn't need the cheese.
Has anyone been able to contact any of the standard delivery chains to check if their crust is completely dairy-free? You know, the typically U.S chains (Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Little Caesars, etc.). I've tried checking their websites, but there doesn't seem to be anything to address that. And I'm afraid that the people who answer the phone might to take orders might not understand that "no dairy" means more than just not pouring milk into the dough. Or, do most chains even make the dough on-site anymore?

I love pizza without cheese now. I order from our favorite restaurant and put mushrooms, grilled chicken, tomatoes on it and it is really good! I also have tried Amy's Soy Cheeze Pizza and added my own toppings to it from home like turkey pepperoni. Be careful though the Amy' pizza does have casin in it which can be a trigger for some people. Also turkey pepperoni can also be. You might want to try this once you are stable to see if it will bother you!

So when I call a pizza place, in order to get it safe, do I have ask for just no cheese, or do I have to ask for no milk in the dough and other things too?

You'll need first to ask them if there are any dairy products (prob. say including whey, casein and lactose) in the dough...then ask for no cheese...and a safe topping (the veggies used aren't usually very well cooked and obviously stuff like Pepperoni is out)...and then hope that it's not too greasy. Take-out pizza is difficult. I get it sometimes but just except that it will make me bloated (and I've been stable for a long time).

Mwhahaha...*evil grin*
Here's what relentless searching gets you...
From Papa John's:
Quote:
Does your pizza contain eggs? There are eggs in our meatballs, chickenstrip breading, honey mustard dipping sauce, cheese dipping sauce and ranch dipping sauce.
Does your pizza contain milk? Neither our original pizza dough nor our original pizza sauce contains milk. However, our Alfredo sauce, blue cheese dipping sauce, cheese, cheese dipping sauce, fiesta sauce, Parmesan cheese packet, ranch dipping sauce, Spinach Alfredo, thin crust, Robusto pizza sauce, our meatballs, and meatball topical contains milk.
They do not post ingredient lists.
Dominos:
From Dominos, I read through crazy lists of ingredients (almost makes you not want to eat it....*shudders*) but, the Thin Crust Pizza appears to be the only Crust without eggs or dairy. The Pizza Sauce is Fine. The "Chicken Kickers" seems to be probably safe, although caramel color (small amounts of dairy) and coconut oil are included far far down in the ingredient list. They contain egg whites, but no yolks.
Pizza Hut: 4 for All dough is safe (this is probably actually a really good idea...you can have cheese-less pizza, and family can have whatever they want.) Big Foot dough contains whey, nonfat milk, and buttermilk. Big New Yorker dough contains whey, and HFCS. Hand-tossed style dough contains whey. Pan Dough contains whey, nonfat milk, buttermilk, and mozzerella cheese. Personal Pan Pizza Dough is safe (also good...small portion just for you. Family can have "real" pizza.) The regular pizza sauce is safe. The sauce used on the Big New Yorker, or the Stuffed Crust Pizzas has cheese in it. Chicken, as a topping is safe.
Whew...those are the biggest chains here in the South (U.S.), but if anyone needs another, maybe I can find it...
I feel like such a detective. It's so hard to know what's *really* in food sometimes.

This is great work and if you want to run for President tomorrow everyone on the Board will vote for you.
I recently told my husband that if I ever want to be absolutely certain someone will read one of my posts, I'm going to make the subject line read: "Pizza and Luna Bars". His suggestion was even better: "Luna Bar announces new flavor - Pizza!"
Thanks, again!

I suppose the key is, when ordering, ask if the dough has ANY dairy. I have done this when ordering a calzone with no cheese, I just worry the people working there will lie. Have any of you asked when ordering from standard pizza restaraunts, and what has your experience been?

I personally can have small amounts of cheese. Mozzarella is made with part skim milk, so it is usually a good choice, as well as parmesan--which is lower in fat. I still eat pizza with cheese, but I ask for very light on the cheese. Usually it doesn't bother me. If I have cheese with other high fat foods, then it is bad. Remember that triggers are different for everyone. I had a small cup of yogurt with lunch and I just ate a frittata with a little bit of mozzarella in it for dinner and my stomach is still happy

There's no way I'd have pizza without cheese. I keep a supply of soy mozarella in my fridge, and whenever hubby wants to go out for pizza, I grab a package and stick it in my purse. At the restaurant, I hand it to the waitress and ask her to please have the chef put it on my pizza. They're always glad to oblige, and in fact, sometimes they charge me less for my pizza since I brought my own cheese. In EACH INSTANCE they complimented me on how fantastic the pizza smelled with my cheese and how much it looked like it contained a lot less fat! I even sold the waitress on the stuff.
But -- better yet -- the pizza tasted MARVELOUS!
I've even taken my own turkey pepperoni with me as well, although I don't do it often. The nitrates in it cause me problems.

Lisanatti Premium Soy-Sation Shredded Mozzarella Style "cheese alternative" produced without using biotechnology. No gluten, MSG or Cholesterol. High calcium, reduced sodium.
It's available in cheddar as well as mozzarella, and I get it at Fred Meyer and Safeway. It's great on pizza and scrambled "Egg Beaters," and I've even used it in samiches.
