I just stumbled upon this website by googling IBS with pregnancy. I am trying to get pregnant and was looking for info. Anyways that is not my question.

I have been dealing with some really bad bouts of IBS recently. It usually acts up around the change of the seaons and yes you guessed it stress. I recently went to my local health food store and talked to a woman there that was pretty knowledgeable about the products they carry. I bought I.B.S. Support by Renew Life (you take 2 in the morning/2 at night). At first I was having horrific gas. But it seems it has subsided a little this is the 4th day taking it. Ingredients:
(Intestinal Lining Support) Morning pills

L - Glutamine
N Acetyl Glucosamine
Gamma Oryzanol
Proprietary Herbal Blend
Cranesbill Root (Geranium maculatum)
Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)
Marigold Flower (Calendula officinalis)
Marshmallow Root (Althaea officinalis)

(Bowel Support) Evening Pills

Slippery Elm bark (Ulmas rubra)
German Chamomile flower (Matricaria recutita)
Fenugreek seed (Trigonella foenum-graecum)
Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare)
Skullcap herb (Scutellaria lateriflora)
Cranberry fruit (Vaccinium macrocarpon pe**)
Peppermint leaf (Mentha piperita)

Proprietary Chinese Herbal Extract Blend
Atractylodes root - bai zhu, Capillary Artemisia herb - yin chen hao, Codonopsis root - dang shen, Job's Tears seed - yi yi ren, Schisandra fruit - wu wei zi, Agastache whole plant - huo xiang, Chinese Licorice root - zi gan cao, Chinese Thoroughwax - chai hu, Ginger root - pao jiang, Korean Ash Branches bark - qin pi, Magnolia bark - hou po, Phellodendron bark - huang bai, Poria cocos root - fu ling, Psyllium seed -che qian zi, Chinese Goldthread - huang lian, Chinese White Peony root - bai shao, Costus root - mu xiang, Siler root - fang feng, Tangerine peel - chen pi, and Angelica root - bai zhi MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)
Other ingredients: Vegetable Capsule (Hypromellose and water)

I also bought the Fibersmart Powder but haven't used it yet the ingredients are:
Flax seed (Linum usitatissimum)
Borage seed (Borago officinalis)
FOS (Fructooligosaccharides)
Guar gum =
Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare)
L-Glutamine =
Marshmallow root (Althaea officinalis)
Probiotic proprietary blend
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Bifidobacterium infantis
Slippery Elm bark (Ulmus rubra)
Triphala (a blend of Indian Gooseberry fruit,
Belleric Myrobalan fruit and Tropical Almond fruit)
Stevia rebaudiana leaf (in FiberSMART powder)

My question is on this website it says people with IBS should only take a soluble fiber supplement. However this product is soluble and insoluble. Now I am very confused and do not know what to do. I usually have diarrehea with bouts of constipation the latter usually only occuring if I am on vacation staying over someone's house. I am afraid that just a soluble fiber will constipate me. I am also taking Prenatal Vitamins which tends to constipate can you advise me on this dilemma I am having.

I love this website and can't believe I have not found it earlier. If anyone can help me including Heather I would really appreciate it very much.

If the supplement is more soluble than insoluble, chances are it'll still be fine. Actually, some soluble fiber supplements (such as Metamucil, I believe) do contain insoluble fiber as well. No harm in trying it.

I would still follow the dosage guidelines here on the site, though, with starting low and gradually working higher. It's just a lot easier on your system to do it slowly.

Good luck!

Read this page about how SF helps both C and D. A SFS will not give you C...in fact they are usually marketed as laxatives!

A's, like you and me, really need a SFS to keep us in the middle as it were.

I have some of that Fiber Smart Powder...It seems to work okay. I was thinking about trying the other IBS stuff you mentioned, but was hesitant due to all the money and products I've tried and not getting much results. Is it something you can take continously? Are you getting good results? I'm a C so I like to try anything! Just tired of all the $$$ wasted.
