Do searches for 'fructose' and 'sucrose' and you'll get more info on why HFCS is problematic.

Basically, sucrose (regular table sugar) is not a trigger but fructose is in large amounts - which includes high fructose corn syrup, fruit juices and for some people large amounts of honey too. Fruit seems to be ok though since there is not a large amount of fructose in just whole fruit.

Why don't you go on a mission to find a safe alternative recipe?

Kemi,

Have you tried Newman-O's? They are made by "Newman's Own Organics", a company founded by Paul Newman, and they taste pretty much just like Oreos (a little better I think).

The ingredients for the mint flavored ones are: organic unbleached flour, organic sugar, powdered sugar, organic palm fruit oil, canola oil, organic cocoa, cocoa (processed w/ alkali), organic unsweetened chocolate, salt, sodium bicarbonate, soy lecithin, peppermint oil.

The only trigger I can see is the chocolate. and that they have fat like most other cookies (4.5 grams in 2 cookies). Safer than Oreos, I would think. Also, Newman's cookies (type not specified) are listed on Heather's list of safe snacks; although she may be referring to a different kind of cookie. You can find these in most HFS's and some supermarkets.
