Gastroparesis which is referred to as paralyzed stomach causes slowed transit time. It's basically the same as having IBS-D, but in your stomach. When you have IBS-D your intestinal emptying is delayed and you end up with food sitting in there because it takes so long to get anything to come out. It ferments in there and causes all the problems.

Gastroparesis is the same thing. The muscles in your stomach don't contract and hydrochloric is usually absent so you don't digest food easily (or not at all). So it just sits there. If it sits long enough and you continue eating you get to the point where you can't eat at all because you are too full. You never know when your stomach will empty.
If the food stays in there too long, or if you eat something that's a GP trigger you get sick (like morning sickness or stomach flu) and vomit.

It's a weird disease. I hope this made some sense.

Maybe in the form of the rice powder or some egg whites.

And bananas can be awful for some folks, like it has been mentioned. I'm pretty sure they cause me constipation and indigestion. Plus, they fill me up and seem to just sit there, more so than other foods!

Oh, Wendy, doesn't GP just stink! I too find that it usually hits me 1/2 way into dinner. Actually, I'm really full before dinner, but eat because I need the cals. And sometimes my tummy growls even though I feel full. Does that ever happen to you?

Do we need to limit the amount we drink too? I have been trying to drink as much as I can tolerate because I have such bad Constipation. But is this making me feel too full to be able to eat?

Do I need to limit the drinking too? If so, how will I prevent myself from getting no BMs at all! I couldn't handle that!

According to my reading of Heather's "The First Year", IBS-D results from too many gastrocolic contractions (also too prolonged and too violent), while IBS-C results from too few. This sounds like the opposite of what you're saying about IBS-D. Or did I misunderstand something somewhere?

Your description of GP makes perfect sense. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.

This is exactly correct. Thanks and sorry if explained it wrong. It's a complicated disease because it is so diffreent for everyone. Here is link of basic info if anyone is curious. It's a short read. One paragraph on the main page, then click at the top "Gastroparesis Info" and there's another couple of paragraphs:

I don't know about you but I cannot eat banana's. They's send me into an attack every time.

I just read today that bananas are on the BRAT diet for diahrrea. "Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast"
I'm eating all those foods because that was on the list to eat.

Oh good Lord. Now I don't know what to eat.

I've not heard of this on the GP boards. You would have to ask your doctor.

I'm not doing protein right now. I'm only on day 3 of the break the cycle diet. I'll eventually try rice powder or egg white protein.

I'm sure some people tummy growls when they are full. If it was me I would not eat more to get calories in when I was already full. It makes me sicker. There are days I don't eat at all to let the food get out of my system.

Yes even just water can fill you up. I'm doing ok w/ the liquids for now, but there are times I just can't get in what I should unless I'm on a liquid diet.

If you need more calories w/ less bulk I would see if your doctor can get you w/ a nutritionist that can help. I think that's what I will have to do.

I really think you need to see a gastroenterologist. There is no answer that works for eveyone. There are too many degrees of GP to guess. Only you know how you feel when you eat or drink. I'm so surprised you Dr has not been over this with you. But then again I can believe it.

I eat what I can, and I drink what I can. If things get too bad I see the doctor. That's why I'm on 2 different "C" medications. Miralax and zelnorm.
