Helps:
Exercise(This is something I need to get back in the habit of)

Turkey (Maybe that's coincidence, but I had turkey for 3 days in a row last week, and that's when I started feeling like a normal person again)

Benefiber twice a day
Pepto Bismal (Does that count?:)
A safe snap a couple hours after lunch
Staying on schedule for meals
Eating breakfast at work instead of before I leave the house
Oatmeal
Minty herbal teas
Fennel tea (I'm getting used to it.)

Hurts:
Stress
Oranges
Brocolli

And that's all I've figured out besides the usual dietary triggers.

Speaking of oranges, would orange juice be as bad as orange pieces? I had an unpleasant experience with mandarin oranges a couple of weeks ago, but since I've been feeling a lot better, I was wondering about orange juice. Should I try it, or should I just not go there?

If oranges bother you and turkey helps...you might have migraines! Oranges make me positively ill and turkey has trytophan...good for my head! Just a thought...

i think you'd have to try the orange juice and see how you go.

I'm glad the turkey helped so much!!!! And I'm glad you're on the site...it's so super having you here Snorkie!

Helps:
Being on this board of course
Taking my Bentyl(at least it's been helping for now )
Excercise (which I certainly do not do enough of)
Keeping stress level at a minimum
Planning only trips that I know will have a bathroom close

Hurts:
Dairy products
Not eating right(like skipping dinner)
Worrying about useless things!
My period(which I basically have no control over )

Great thread Ruch!

Ruchie,
How much do you take and at what time[s] of day?

How does it help you to sleep better? I've heard that Calcium helps induce sleep but I didn't know that Mg did also.

Lastly, why do you take the malate form of MG?

Thanks, Joanne

...learning what to eat, when. That first little bit of pre-breakfast food was almost like a missing puzzle piece being snapped into place. If I wake up and eat breakfast, I'm done for... but if I wake up and eat a piece of toast or something else small, and THEN eat breakfast, I'm fine for the rest of the day 95% of the time. It's amazing, really!

Other helps:

*Bananas - I feel weird if I go a day without eating one!
*Oatmeal - ditto!
*Moderate exercise/activity
*Cat snuggles, emails from friends, and all the myriad small things that keep me from getting moody
*Smaller meals and more frequent snacks
*PLENTY of water/herbal tea/teeccino - I really, really feel it if I don't drink enough.

Hurts:

*Eating too much
*Any kind of negative emotion for an extended period of time
*Not enough sleep
*Not enough sunshine!

That's a fibro thing, not an IBS thing, although magnesium is good for anyone with restless leg syndrome. Fibromites like Ruchie and I are typically low in magnesium and malic acid (the malate part).
