Hi, I joined this site several months ago but have not had a chance to look at it for awhile. I have had a change in my IBS and feel like I am so fed up with this whole thing! I have IBS-A but most of my life has been C more than D. Several months ago it became D all the time and I have to say I felt ok that at least I didn't have to worry anymore about the bloating and such that go with C. Well now for some reason I am not going at all. The only correlation I can see is due to my period. The only thing is that I had my period and I am still having difficulty. I tried the acacia fiber and even in small amts it causes gas. Along with the C I have had constant gas and bloating. I have read some of the other posts and realize many others have the same issues. I have had all the tests and they have all come out ok. After a colonoscopy I was told that I had 50% percent more colon than I need and was given miralax. The miralax gives me gas too. I am now doing yoga and it has helped my general well being but aside from that I am SO sick of all this. Usually when my bloating and gas get so painful I have resorted to fleets but hate doing this because I don't want to be dependent on them. I just want to have a somewhat normal gut. Sorry I am just going on about this but I am at my wits end!

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Gas and bloating are not usually my problem - although that may be changing lately but a lot of people on the Boards seem to swear by fennel tea for them. It's worth a try. (If you don't like the taste, you can combine the fennel with another tea, like peppermint, fo example.)
Enemas scare me - I figure they've to to be a shock to the system. If you haven't already, you might do a Search on "enema" and see what info is out on the Boards.

Thanks for your reply. I do have and like the fennel tea. I'm not sure how much it helps though. I tend to get frustrated if something does not help after several weeks. As far as enemas, I haven't had to use them very much except recently. Unfortunately I am familiar with them as I am a nurse and give them to others. I am more fearful of using something to go that might cause an unexpected situation. Part of my problem I guess too is that I'm under alot of stress. I work night shift, am recently married, go to school and have a small child. When I work it takes several days to get back to some sort of routine. I will graduate from school this June and hopefully find a normal hours job so I can have more regularity in my life. I know that shift work is probably the worse thing for IBS.I will take your advice and do a search on that topic and again start with the fennel tea. Thanks

Hi there,
I'm sorry you are going through such a rough time. I too would suggest doing a search on the boards for both gas and bloating and see what other people have asked/answered in the past since I don't have any brilliant ideas for you! Sorry, I wish I could help more!
Are you on a SFS, by the way? You might find your gut settles down after that? Do you ever take anything like GasX or anything?
Good luck!

What dose of Acacia did you start at? You might want to try another SFS....they are so helpful! And as you're A (like me ) then they are practically essential.

I've attempted the acacia several times, the first time I think I used more than a teaspoon three times a day thinking this would just solve all my problems. Oh boy was I wrong. So when I recovered from that I used half a teaspoon or less and tried to increase to a teaspoon. Still gas. then I bought some benefiber tablets and I think this is why I got in this situation. I feel better today just because I took small amts of miralax and spent the whole day yesterday near the facilities and then was back to D today. I do try to follow the diet but sometimes my love of salads overcomes me. How long does it take for your system to adjust to the SFS and do I just need to be patient? When I am C it is not so much that the BM is hard to pass but that I just don't have any motility at all. It's as if my gut has totally forgotten what to do. Either too much or not at all. Is that what you suffer? Thanks KateL

Fyi, some people start at 1/4 tsp Acacia. How long did you give yourself before upping the dose? I started on SFSs before I found Heather and went straight onto the big dose...had major gas, bloating, etc, but the extra symptoms subsided after about 2 weeks.
Although I'm A, I tend more to D and my C is never that bad.
You do have to be really good about the diet for quite a while to get good results. I used to love salads too, but haven't had a bowl/plate of salad for 2 1/2 years now. Too painful to think about.
