Quick question on eating while constipated

Is it okay to continue eating normal amounts even though I am so constipated, or is this just making the situation worse?

Should I only be doing a liquid intake and cutting back on real food until I get some sort of good BM? How much real food is okay?

If so, any suggestions on how to get the nutrients I need?

Thanks again, all.

I try and judge how I am feeling. Sometimes when I am really constipated I won't eat as much but drink alot of water. Other times eating sometimes makes me go. Unfortunately I don't follow a set plan! This past week I have been eating and just waiting to see if I will go. I am going just not well!!! Remember to drink lots of water!!!!

good question Beth. I know that even though I'm constipated, I'm still really really hungry. I can't believe how much I eat sometimes. It's like my head is telling me that if I eat enough, somehow that will make my tummy feel better! Sorry I don't have an answer for you. I hope someone does though,I'd be curious to find out.

even though I am full of "crap". But worry about loading my body with even more stool to the point of being plugged up even more.

what I really don't get is why, if I had a BM this morning & really nothing to eat since then, why am I gassy?????????? There really shouldn't be too much down there to cause problems right? Damn I hate this! Why won't the gas just stop coming? No matter what I do I can't stop the smelly stuff!

"They" say 8 glasses a day for "normal" folks, I say a minimum of 12 glasses a day for C folks!!!

Taking it one day at a time.....

How do IBS-Cers do with smoothies and/or vegetable juices like V-8? Do these add to the constipation or cramping pain? Or do they help because they're liquidized? It would seem like a good way to get some nutrients and calories and be easier on the digestive system. My grandfather has chronic C (he has many health problems); I worry that he's not eating well because of it and I don't want him to suffer any more than he has to!

Thanks for your help!

When I do eat, although very constipated, I get more "belching" and gassy too. It's like I'm all filled up, so it it comes back up in the form of a belch. UGH!
