Has anyone found a good cheese substitute? I tried smart balance cheddar, but it doesn't taste so good. It doesn't taste like cheese to me. Even in health food stores, I have trouble finding soy or rice cheese that doesn't look scary.
Can anyone help?

Christine

That would have been my suggestion to you. I can't stand the rice and soy cheeses. I find this stuff works the best when mixed with other things. It seems to melt better than soy or rice. However be careful becasue it does contain traces of milk products, so I it could bother you. It doesn't bother me. Cheese is the hardest thing I have had to give up! I would love to find a great substitute. Some people here do like the soy and rice cheeses, so you might want to try them to see if they agree with your taste buds!

I picked up the Veggie For Life provolone singles for the first time the other day. It has a nice smoky flavor. It was a heck of a lot better than I expected.
It does have casin in it but didn't seem to bother me.

Could anyone tell me where to find these products? I have looked by the cheeses, and have never seen soy or rice cheese. Jen

You could try a health food store, or the natural/health foods section of your grocery store.

I mispoke. It's not Veggie for Life, it's Galaxy Nutritional Foods. I've been able to find the slices at most grocery stores in my area. They're usually by the other health food or organics. I picked up the shredded mozarella the other day, but I haven't tried it yet.

Have you ever tried NUTRITIONAL YEAST? It's got a cheesy/nutty taste. It's also a source of B12 and protein.
A lot of faux cheeses are made with it. You can get it in a natural food store or in the natural food department of some grocercy stores. There is zero dairy in it, zero casein. The fat content is virtually nil.
