I have the reduced fat PB on a sandwich almost every week day. I use HFCS free bread, homemade non-HFCS jam and just less than 1T reduced fat PB. It comes to 280 calories, 7-8 grams of fat, 5 grams of fiber.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

try non dairy replacements for butter... in small quantities- you'll still taste them.. or try other subs- like roasted garlic- yummy and fat free or virtually (depends on how its made) and not strong garlic taste at all.....

isn't important to keep fats (reasonably, of course) especially if you are C? To keep you "lubricated"?
But you guys already said that Heather says low fat not no fat!

yes, but since so much food has fat in it, even chicken breast.. by its nature, I don't add fats in cooking unless neccesary... especially because I'd rather get that fat in things that I'd have ot cut out otherwise like prepared foods, nuts, peanut butter, etc....
Also- avoiding frying foods in quantities of fat doesn't mean leaving it out in other ways- some of the sauces, etc have it... I make gravy from the pan drippings when I roasta whole chicken, I sometimes eat a piece other then breastmeat... but I skim the gravy so its not AS fatty... for someone who grew up on schmaltz (chicken fat) on toast thats something I can't give up.... but I get as much fat out of it as possibel and still get the chicken flavor!
my overall fat intake is about 20-25%, but most peoples these days is MUCH higher, and I have ot fight to keep ti low.. and htings like scrambled eggs- todays second breakfast have to have SOME fat to keep from sticking!

Did you see my question to you about fruits?? I bumped it, but I guess you still missed it! Was wondering if you eat any fruits at all, since you posted you can't have them. Which ones can you have and how often? Just being noisy! I thought a couple a day would be okay.
How did you determine you were fructose intolerant?

I can eat fruit- apples, etc.. but not the JUICE... there isn't enough fiber and the fruit juice mades me D... no clue why... it just happens... I do fine with tomatoes for example, and baked apples, and banana breads, but if I drink a cup of any type of juice other then tomato I seem to run straight for the bathroom.

khyricat, I just noticed your note on fruit juice. I have been studying for years. There is a wonderful doctor in Idaho who has written several books on IBS. He pretty much is in sync with this group. He has researched this for about 40 years. I can't get clear into it, but it truly fits and adds to info here. But the problem with juice is fructose. It's like "diabetes of the gut" as I understand it. It irritates the gut much like other things get you and/or other people.
I had a fabulous doctor in 1980-82 who taught me a lot. She says IF you drink juice dilute 6:1 not 3:1. I even take it further usually. I MAY be having some problems right now as I cannot eat anything I cannot see through, and I'm drinking some apple juice et al. I have diluted, but I'm going to dilute further. It's just that I'm so hungry. Fructose and corn syrup (along with sorbitol, mannitol, etc.) can just play havoc. I'd love to share some of this neat doctor's findings if anyone is interested.
One neat story was how a little boy was actually bleeding from his gut. He narrowed it down to his toothpaste. He got very little down his throat, but ANY was too much. And the stories are numerous and helpful. He worked with Native American Indians and narrowed down their gut problems (I'm part NAI, and I seem to have inherited their milk intolerance...this is VERY typical of Indians).
Try just flavoring your water with fruit juice and see if you can tolerate that. If not, you are very sensitive to fructose so read labels (which you probably do already).

Hey there - just to add another piece of info to the conversation - I am mainly a C and can tolerate a great deal of fats - it actually helps me go - I can have up to four tablespoons of olive oil at a time, lots of nuts, nut butters, olives etc - but never have deep fried. so maybe you are one of the lucky ones!
