hot dog alternative

Can anyone recommend a "hot dog" that is actually good? My son (IBS-C)likes them but the substitute we tried was quite yucky. It was Smart Dogs by Litelife.

isn't a hot dog.. its a chicken sausage.. you can put it on a bun.. trader joes carries a variety- we like the jalepeno and the sun dried tomato varieties best.. some of them are smaller.. btu they are still expensive.. so I normally don't make them a regular occurance..

I amnot sure if your son can tolerate this but I buy turkey hot dogs. They taste pretty good.

I found that turkey dogs by LouisRich work okay on me. They don't have all of the oil, taste good, and they have the same taste and texture of Hot Dogs..I really miss my Nathans Franks Though!

I myself like Smart dogs (which you obviously didn't) and Tofu Pups. Tofu pups taste alot like Smart Dogs though. I didn't like Yves so much, I think they tasted alot different, so maybe you would like them. Those are the only big name varieties that I have found, and the lesser known brands are usually gross it seems.
One thing to remember when eating vegetarian 'look alikes', is that they will taste nothing like the actual food for the most part. If you eat a veggie burger or a soy dog expecting it to taste like beef or pork counterpart you will probably be disappointed.

i used to buy applegate farms poultry hot dogs. i cant remember if they are chicken or turkey, i think they make both. they are really tasty and there is a website i think its applegatefarms.com if you want to see any nutritional information or ingredients. the only reason i dont buy them anymore is because i have gotten hooked on making my own turkey burgers, but otherwise they are quick and easy to make, probably much better tasting than fake hot dogs as well.
